Those promo ones are worth way more than that.

I would've kept it and sold it fresh in 10 years tbh.

That’s at least limited edition though.

Just a big standard PS5 for 1k is so dumb.

There was a rash of local news stories about robberies and murders over the PS3 when it first came out too at $599

Don’t forget to add all the people who get trampled to death on Black Friday to the black book of capitalism

lmao I forgot the ps3 was cheaper than most blu ray players at the time too. Definitely the most powerful negotiating tactic to use on your dad. I had to settle for the Xbox's powerful HD DVD capabilities.

ikr, is it just me or do these consoles not even have any decent launch games? Are people really dropping $1000 for fucking call of duty and assassins creed? In 2020??

Seriously, the only reason I got a PS4 was becuase of Bloodborne, and I probably won't get a PS5 until the next Fromsoft thing.

Like all of the COD games are the exact same, why are you scalping a PS5 just to play the 50th iteration.

It's weird people still like doing things. Imagine being excited for, like, Thor 5 during all of this nonsense happening in the world

Prolly, or I can play it on PS4 and just feel agony every second of slightly lower graphical fidelity.

I got an Xbox one in like 2014 (not even at launch), and it’s only with the advent of gamepass getting really good in the last year or so that I feel like it actually offered something awesome unique to the platform lol

    Someone's gotta say it.

If you're spending a thousand dollars on a gaming machine you should first build a PC, and then report to the people's reeducation gulag.

What's even better about it is every PS console has had issues/failures with their first batch of consoles, how many of these $1000 PS5s will shit the bed in a month or two?

Yes, this is exactly why I'll wait for at least one iteration of the hardware before I buy.

        I’m the same way.

We expect software to have day 1 patches but we’re supposed to be capable of making perfect hardware at launch?

I’m sure the hardware has more rigorous QA because you can’t just patch it, but I still think it’s crazy to expect no issues on a first run.

Exactly. Even a look at every modern console release should show people why not to buy the launch model. Especially since there's no killer next gen games yet, and probably won't be for a year.

Can you imagine being an oblivious apolitical dipshit who's biggest concern is the new game system?

It sounds amazing, I want that brain

or gamers have no impulse control to wait a month

It's this one. Gamers have to have it RIGHT NOW. Part of it is just wanting to have the shiny new thing as soon as possible. Sometimes devs have their own hand in it (multiplayer with any kind of progression system harms getting started late), but it's mostly gamers driving it.

With that said, I'll also mention that hardware manufacturers do keep the supply low at the initial release to build hype.

it’ll be two years or so before there are good games for either console

And it'll be never before either console has enough good games that aren't on PC to justify purchasing one.

Upfront sure, but I've had my current PC since about when the PS4 came out, and it cost less than two consoles would have, and it still works fine with new stuff.

I always wait a year or two for a game that I actually want to play to come out before buying the latest console. But honestly I'm 30 years old, have two kids, and barely play my ps4 as it is. I think ps4 might be my last gaming console other than building myself a raspberry pi with a ton of old games on it for me me and the kids to play.

I am just waiting like six months. Who cares? The game libraries for the new consoles are sort of shit right now anyway. People gotta consooooooom.
