It fuckin sucks.

If California had it like we do it'd be seeing 40,000 cases and 800 deaths a day.

Native Americans are dying at like 5 times the rate of whites. Here in MT entire Native towns have it. The elders are dying and with them their knowledge. It's cultural genocide and hardly anyone white or powerful gives a shit.

The municipal death of the little towns is accelerated. A third of the businesses near me were closed pre-2020 and now another third are boarded up or on their way there.

My friend's an RN at an ICU here and they've been full-to-bursting for weeks. None of her covid patients recover. They all die. Three weeks ago Idaho was sending their excess cases here. Now we're sending our cases to WA. As of today she's taking a couple weeks' break from tending the dying because the household's quarantined: her teen daughter has significantly symptomatic covid. Caught it at school because all MT schools have been in-person since September. When those kids go to thanksgiving it's going to kill so many thousands of grandparents.

The heavily reactionary white population's social media is further darkenening as the Steal is not being Stopped. The chuds are disappearing from facebook in their exodus to Parler and other venues where they are siloing themselves off to post at themselves until they finally drown in their lungs. All expectations being reduced to bare life, if that. The slow cancellation of the future not slow no more.

Remember that new congressman who was recorded body-slamming the Guardian reporter a few years back and breaking his little nerd glasses? That guy just got elected Governor. He's a rich tech goon from Maryland in the mold of Peter Thiel and within a year he's going to kick me off Medicaid. State Democrats used to win elections here and they don't any more and never will again. Montana's going to run the Kansas Experiment 2.0 and it's about to get stripped of its copper wiring.

There's nothing left to do but sit at home and glower at your screen while the last tattered scraps of community and economy dry up and blow away, and death seeps in between the boards and through the cracks.

Spare a thought if you please and will the last one to die please turn out the lights

My understanding is that a lot of patients are "happy hypoxic" and don't get the sensation of physical wrongness that normally comes with dropping oxygen, people don't know anything's wrong until they're pretty much dead

What do you think the chance is I had it last xmas ? I was traveling across the country and stayed for hours in a few international airports. The flu swept through my entire family, and then me and my SO both had crazy respiratory shit for like 2.5 months. Downside, I can't run anymore without my lungs hurting like crazy and I have to consciously force myself to take full breaths. Upside, I still have a bunch of codeine/promethazine syrup leftover.

It is maddening how no one cares anymore, yet it is worse than when we did care. The officials don't care. Their evil version of what freedom is is as you described it, a Genocide. The liberals are painfully inadequate. All these fuckers deserve the Hague or worse.

In Wisconsin there were packed bars 15 minutes after the supreme court struck down the stay at home order.

It is insane. It seems like some people will kill you if you suggest a little humanity.

Just here to remind everyone that nothing is being done about COVID at ICE concentration camps so the infection rates at them will be around 100%. And new people are being sent there all the time.

        make five friends, buckle up.

It's not safe to meet in person right now (except when it is), so regular check ins on a secure-ish platform like Signal with some suggestions:

        • Limited and strictly structured shit/doomposting, otherwise it clogs up the chat
        • Meeting immediate needs among your group
        • working on your social skills and interpersonal conflict revolution
        • researching community needs and how to aid
        • deciding on where else you can help other folks in your community
        • be a nerd, read and discuss theory

The part about your friend in ICU really fucking scares me. If we don’t go into shutdown immediately, there’s no chance we stop this. There’s too many shitty people causing the joke we have for a healthcare system to overload. And the government is doing jack all to slow it or help the people that are suffering. This isn’t the situation any of us asked to be in, and I’m pretty damn shook.

Heartbreaking tale, comrade. Especially the stuff about the native impact. Stay strong.

Damn was not expecting to see a Montanan on here. My redacted works as a nurse at the fort peck reservation and it’s terrifying how little infrastructure they have to deal with it all. They were using an old barn as a makeshift quarantine/treatment(?) center for some time. Now it sounds like cases are really starting to grow and there’s so little anyone can do about it

    Damn, solidarity OP. Heartbreaking post.

This shit totally radicalized me. The indifference and actual contempt for those suffering from the people with power is probably something a lot of us will carry with us and remember for the rest of our lives.

Holy shit, that is awful. I haven't been following covid news much besides the occasional headline that pops into my feed, but that was super depressing to read. Hang in there comrade, solidarity

The white-imposed commodity diet plus genetic and epigenetic factors make the native population seriously predisposed to diabetes and cardiovascular disease

I was going to extend the "lack of infrastructure and healthcare as a result of systemic racism and colonial genocide program", but but even on the individual human health basis, yeah, that's totally fucked.
