America was always great at handling epidemics and always will be. Why? Because of us, the journalists. We are awesome.

Just got a really horrible flash of how the US is gonna deal with a big food shortage... I can imagine far right militias attacking and burning food aid from the UN to protect their freedoms.

A lot of our food is exported for profit. If there's a depression, I'd expect that to ramp up.

We would sooner buy food at low cost, or seize it at gunpoint, then allow aid to come here.

We would accept larger and larger numbers of people starving to death without resistance. Some argument, maybe. Maybe the libs will put together a commission or something. But no resistance. You'll die hungry surrounded by thoughts and prayers.

Hunger and Famine is a fantastic work. How he could write that and still be such a liberal is beyond me. His attempts at broader theory is pure lib sophistry.

Yes, he made this argument about the famine following the Great Leap Forward.

This quote does not give a complete representation of his views though. He also says that, while a large famine like that wouldn't happen in a democracy, in the long run more people died of hunger in capitalist India than in communist China - because China eventually addressed its problems, while India just accepted a certain amount of yearly deaths as normal.

This is how you know the US doesn't have a free press any more. If they had, there'd be more chopping off heads and less voting lol
