Damn wait till everyone finds out we've been stanning a straight guy all along :lenin-pensive:

(but actually; good for him, and good on the media for not deadnaming him in any of the headlines I've seen so far, which actually made it a bit hard for me to tell which person this was at first, since I'm bad with faces and celebs)

Truly disgusting. The amount of "oh no now there's no more lesbian icons, trans men are a patriarchal plot to turn model lesbians into men" takes is insane. Somebody's gotta bully the TERFs all day long.

The weirdest take I saw today wasn’t even the transphobes complaining about the erasure of lesbians or whatever (seen it so much I’m not shocked)

but today there was a guy on twitter upset because there’s another short trans man out there and apparently he believes that too many short trans men means he won’t be able to date because he’s a short guy

And I was like where are these women clamoring for short trans men to where you feel like there’s some sort of scarcity and competition due to trans guys transitioning lmao

        Just bizarre

It took about 5 minutes for my friends to go from respectively using his pronoun to building strawmen out of issues of him continuing to play Vanya in Umbrella Academy , that it's a good thing his wife is showing support because she doesn't have a choice she would be scathed alive (her being with a man, now, is the theory I guess), and just worry signaling nonsense. Such shit.

you have to hope they aren't too online. Presumably they're clear on their relationship. To paraphrase a bit from Atlanta, gender is kind of a continuum and not an either or thing and you can have fun with if you want. Elliot being male now doesn't mean he has to grow a lumberjack beard and get jacked so like he could easily continue on as that character. Like Cate Blanchett did a fine job as Bob Dylan

Second season was kind of weak so I won't care if it doesn't come back though.

I like the example from Schitt's Creek, where David said 'he likes the wine, not the bottle' in terms of his sexual preference being a queer character but in the show having had relations with a woman and a man

There was a similar bit in a series of fantasy novels called the farseer trilogy or something like that where a character of indeterminate gender is in love with the main character who is very cis and kind of hapless and he's like but are you a lady. And the person responds what does love have to do with plumbing. Being vague as you might read it some day.

The real fantasy is having enough patience to bang cis people who are that dense

Arguably an a-lister. He's a great actor and I'm legitimately excited to see his future projects.

On a related note, Juno was such a good movie. I still listen to songs from the soundtrack weekly.

I've noticed that in a couple of Wikipedia articles about trans people; the first sentence will refer to them as "formerly known as DeadName." I think the intent is to avoid confusion but I'm not qualified to say whether that makes it okay.

It's an interesting question though. This is an instance of a public figure who was well known before transitioning. I guess the question would be whether historical/academic/whatever literature should entirely avoid using dead names for any reason. My instinct is to say it's not the same thing as talking about people who aren't public figures and should probably have a different set of expectations around it. I'm also highly unqualified here.

Wikipedia is meant to provide accurate information to fully inform people.

Most people will Google 'Ellen Page' to even find out his current name.

Really interested to see how Umbrella Academy handles this. They've generally been good with how they handled their LGBT characters, I don't imagine Elliot is gonna want to continue playing Vanya as a cis woman. Are they gonna make the character a trans man? Or are they gonna retcon her to have always been male?

I don't know. It's acting. I think he's been in the business long enough that he doesn't feel like his roles have to reflect his personal life. But you're right, I could see that creating some dysphoric feelings that might not be pleasant. Hopefully they really work with Elliot on it and come to a conclusion that works for him.

I am in full support of the transgender scene, but ignorant to some of the subtleties like this so if anyone wants to chime in please feel free. The way I understand it is Elliot, while identifying as trans & using he/they pronouns still isn't a transgender male (I'm presuming this would typically result in a transition/hormones/etc) - but non-binary so he is simply that, a he - but not a male?

I would love some clarification or at least a little bit more understanding, google sort of gave me an answer but again the subtlety of it is what I don't know how to handle it when explaining it to someone.

I feel like there's a Beyond: Two Souls/two-spirits connection that can be made here, but I'm too lazy to delve into it further.
