See, I always thought it was funny because growing up there was always some comic book villain or video game where the World Trade Center was being damaged or destroyed to make a point

Hell, I own the issue of X-Force where Juggernaut blows up the WTC and laughs about it

Yep, the special 9/11 issue of Spider-Man

Like I can see the Kingpin being upset, but fucking Dr. Doom and Magneto wouldn't give two shits

Hell, a few years after 9/11 fucking Dr. Octopus would try to boil the brains of everyone on Earth with a microwave satellite

It was a Maudlin piece of shit

Yeah, even if he was the fucking Grant Morrison version who was shoving humans into gas chambers, he would not have a given a single fuck

Like, I usually don't care much about canon, but seriously folks, stick with the characterization please!

Yeah particular events in canon, who cares - but don't shit on the whole point of a character, or a whole story, etc.

The ending of the PS1 game Spider-Man 2 had change the ending because it takes place at the top of the WTC. There was a cutscene where Thor shows up to help after you already beat Electro, but it was cut so the newspaper giving all the credit to Thor doesn't make any sense since the player never actually met Thor. I know MGS2 had to change a ton about the ending because the playable segment where you kill a bunch of Rays on top of Arsenal was supposed to be happening while Arsenal was crashing through the WTC, so instead you seem to fight the Rays in some sort of negative space.

Because they were the largest buildings in NYC. Back in like the 50s it was all about the Empire State Building

Dream Theater was slated to release a live album on 9/11/2001 whose cover art depicted the New York City skyline (including the WTC) in flames:

This one is a deep cut but maybe someone else could recall this.

In the game Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, they had a video at the beginning when you got the campaign going or when the game finally is installed that depicted the WTC on fire. I know this cause I had a version bought before 9/11. In addition to this, you could garrison civilian buildings and on the New York level you could garrison the WTC.

I swear after 9/11, EA and Westwood removed the video and via a patch + new copies you could no longer garrison the WTC.

Did I hallucinate this as a kid or does anyone else recall this?

Hell yeah then I’m not trippin. I grew up in rural KS and remember not getting the new patch downloaded till like I swear 03-04 maybe when we got a Sat uplink at the house. Then I just went to restart it and it was gone and it fucked with me so hard cause I legit remembered garrisoning the WTC.

Yeah, if I recall correctly, in the Soviet campaign you were supposed to either garrison the building or blow it up

      you could garrison the WTC

and it was so tall it uniquely allowed your garrisoned troops to target flying units...

Yup, the box art was drastically changed and the WTC Soviet mission was changed with a patch. I got the game before 911, my dad got a copy to play with me afterwards, it was a fun novelty to bring out the boxes side by side to show my nerd friends.

Explosions in the Sky went through something similar.

The band garnered a small amount of media attention as the liner notes of this album contained a picture of an airplane and the text "This Plane Will Crash Tomorrow". A rumor circulated that the album was released on September 10, 2001, the day before the September 11, 2001 attacks, but this is not true. According to Amazon, the album was officially released September 4, 2001, exactly one week before the attacks. An interview with Stylus claims the album was available as early as August 24, 2001. Members of the band told Stylus that they had the artwork and idea for the liner notes for over a year before the attacks on the World Trade Center.

The Sega Dreamcast game "Propeller Arena" was cancelled right before release because it was all about aerial dogfighting in a city filled with skyscrapers that you could crash into
