    Counterpoint: lack of cell service in subway tunnels is actually good because it creates one of the few increasingly rare spaces in modern society in which you cannot possibly be expected to always be available, whether socially or to your boss.

        For real, my friends talk about how they hate always being available like this and I just say "uhhh, don't be available like that then. See? someone's calling me and I'm just not gonna pick up. easy as that."

          You're partly right, but that's not a realistic answer for everyone, and it's treading close to taking a bad employer practice and blaming it on individual employees rather than the employer.

        Some people are dicks though. The nice thing about “going into the subway” is that it gives you a firm boundary that they can’t possibly object to.
