I'm trying to work out what she means here. All possible interpretations I've come up with for this are not great.

I'm interpreting it as "you're erasing my racial identity and inserting my sexual identity", is that what you're seeing?

That is the most charitable interpretation I can come up with.

OK, now I read the context, which was a Trans woman calling her Cis, and I'm not sure I can spin it as a badly worded take.

This is the only thing that makes any sense in context imo

This was still an incredibly dumb thing to say lol. Gloria is not "good" for this.

I've seen the trans comrade's twitter. She's legit. She tried to bring up their concerns internally and got rebuffed.

ETA: I might be in the wrong on this. Give me time to process and course correct. My brain is bad.

anything's a dumb thing to say if you post a cropped screenshot of 40 words on twitter and encourage people to interpret it in the worst way possible.

I don't think anyone involved here is acting in bad faith at this point. Look at Awoo's explanation here: https://hexbear.net/post/65478/comment/669147 for how the trans comrade could mean well but be reacting badly.

And I think nucleartakes just did what I did, saw the quote out of context and thought it looked bad.

I definitely dont think anyone is intentionally wrecking. Just misguided people.

I can believe that. But I can also believe that if you run an account called @NuclearTakes you're inevitably going to fall into a pattern of stirring shit, starting drama, and drawing hard lines between Good Guys and Bad Guys. I'm not saying it's their responsibility, just that it's not a kind of posting that's conducive to solidarity or productive conflict resolution.

Identity essentializing to silence somebody... real "pro lib move".

    Smells like badjacketing to me.

Never heard this term before. Are you saying Gloria is badjacketing the trans woman?

Okay... so from the quote somebody has decided to tell Gloria that "because she is cisgender" she cannot have an opinion on the matter.

Where ever this quote comes from, outside of context, feels like somebody is badjacketing Gloria. Trying to paint her as a transphobe.

This response was transphobic as hell regardless of the wider context going on around it. Best interpretation was that it was just badly worded.

            ?

How is it transphobic? Is there more context?

If I tried to talk to somebody about something and was told that I have to be quiet because "I'm cisgendered" and i pointed out how that was pretty crappy to essentialise me by my gender, why would I be in the wrong?

I don't think so. Referring to someone reductively as "cis woman" IS intended to belittle who a person is. She's not wrong about that. I think the point comes across saying that she has a right to speak not because she's cis but because she's latina and racism is occurring. That seems totally appropriate.

Yeah I guess with context that might be the case, but I think she should have been more careful as the face of the party in how she worded that. Because out of context, it comes off as TERFish.

Hence, why it kinda feels like badjacketing. It requires a lack of context AND me to be primed to assume that Gloria LaRiva is a TERF.

Think about it another way. Why would, whomever she was responding to, have decided to bring Gloria LaRiva's gender into the conversation at all?

Yeah I agree with you now and deleted the thread lol. I didnt know the full context. I assumed, stupidly, that the trans woman calling Gloria "cis" was doing so because Gloria was talking authoritatively on trans issues or something like that.

Why can I not find the source for this? I googled for a string of it and the only results are two facebook meme pages (which don't show the actual content because the page isn't static) and two twitter hits, one of which is protected. If this is from some back-and-forth, where is it?

Read the other comments in the thread. Turns out there's some people who are, in my opinion unintentionally, doing a bit of wrecking. I didn't know the full context when I posted this. I had only previously seen the side of the trans woman who said she said this, and I could still dig up her tweet if you want, but yeah it turns out there isn't as much going on as we though.

Definitely not intentional on my part and I don't think intentional on NukeTakes part. I didn't know the full context when I posted.

While the cis tankies and the trans tankies fight, the "radlibs" might actually get something done.

radlibs are about to establish a military base in Tibet, and tankies are busy talking about trans rights smh
