Now Bernard is blocking the Pentagon budget to force the Senate to vote on those 2k checks. I'll always have a soft spot for Bernie I don't care what anyone says.

I can honestly say without Bernie helping remove the wool from my eyes I have no idea how much of an insufferable lib I'd be. I have long since surpassed him but I do owe him that.

How can be block the budget? Don't all republicans and most democrats in the Senate want to pass the largest military budget in history? Why does it matter that he votes against it?

Filibuster. He can hold shit up and cause problems, and it makes them look bad if he's up their slapping his dick on the podium yelling "I demand a vote on giving the people a pay rent and buy food check"

Also the senate runs on a system where they handwave a ton of procedural rules and stuff but they can only do so with consent of everyone in the senate (when you hear about them fast-tracking judges and stuff that's what they're doing) so Bernie can force them to go through every single procedure if he really wants to be a huge pain in the ass

The old sub played a strong part in radicalizing me. I came because I liked the dank memes, and then I stayed because I began to realize that the people there had a deeper understanding of the political landscape than other communities. I've been thinking a lot about the old sub vs ChaCha recently, because I'm not sure that I would stay in this place if I didn't already buy into the ideas. Should we be a radicalizing entity, or should we be a community for the radicalized? I'm not sure. I feel like the former is more important to have, but there should also be a community for the latter. I dunno, tell me your thoughts.

Yeah OG Chapo had a vitality that this place definitely lacks. Obviously there's less than 10% of the users here rn but I agree it feels different. Maybe I'm just getting numb to leftist shitposting.

It'd be nice to be further forward in the pipeline like we used to be, but things like the subtitles ("America deserved 9/11" "Stalin did nothing wrong") and ppb in the footer are gonna be intimidating, even if they are good memes. I think once federation is a thing, we might get another shot though (but then again, the Lemmyverse is more or less on the same page with us as it stands currently).

If you wanna radicalize people you gotta get out there in your Ford Transit with "Free Candy for the working class, nothing for the bosses" written on it. We gotta lure impressionable youth in to the spiders web of mutual aid and beating up landlords.

You and me have changed since the old sub. And this is no longer it. I think we should definitely be a radicalizing entity to some point, but even in the later days of the sub if you werent already a little lefty you would be probably spooked by all the crabs and stuff. And also the format of this place is different - it allows you to have both more radical and less radical comms. But also having so many comms dilutes the stream of content, whereas in the sub everything was together in one place. We didnt get a new sub, we got an entire fucking reddit (God help us all).

My Disabilities in Film paper was taking a while to get graded and I was telling my mom about it, and then literally in the middle of the conversation the professor emailed me saying she finally graded it, it was one of the best papers she'd ever seen, and asked if she could use it for new lessons as required reading material. The actual fuck???

Anyway it was about how ableist a lot of "pro-disability" films actually are and how cynical it is that the able-bodied community celebrates them instead of advocating so...based?

People with bpd can be really really difficult to deal with and manipulative, and can at the same time really get under your skin. It kinda sucks for everyone involved, cause they still suffer a lot, and cant but leave a trail of destruction behind them.

        • sappho [she/her]
          ·

Women are overwhelmingly diagnosed with BPD and there's enough prejudice against the disorder that it can be difficult for them to find therapists who are willing to help. Because it's considered a "personality disorder," there's an assumption that it's something inherent to the person and cannot be improved. This is horribly stigmatizing, and being slapped with the BPD label can be a huge detriment to getting effective health care of any kind. Tragically, BPD almost always results from trauma, and trauma disorders are very treatable when the right techniques are used (and many more mainstream therapeutic modalities are not effective, and even harmful). I've seen quite a few people on /r/cptsd who were originally diagnosed with BPD, and they got nowhere and had horrible experiences with mental health professionals, until they realized on their own the link between their symptoms and their trauma history and sought the correct treatment.

I'm so god damned mad. I'm so fucking angry. why is it so hard for so many leftists to just listen to their allies and hear the intent? fuck me, people have been getting hurt because of a misunderstanding so basic it blows me away. and rather than trying to solve the political problem, these organizers tried to paper over it by appeasing the letter of what was being asked for. and people. got. hurt.

don't use "following PoC leadership" as an excuse to abdicate thought, careful analysis, and negotiation. it took 3 paragraphs back and forth to resolve, total. we'll avoid our past mistakes and now we have a common understanding of shared aims that will allow us to build capacity in the future. just use empathy!

you know what else I'm mad about? I've been sitting here for months fretting about how to build relationships with all these groups when apparently the answer the whole time was literally show up, say what people needed to hear, listen, and engage in a dialogue. they're so used to people ignoring them that someone who listens carefully and responds to what they say really fucking stands out. gdi, so much wasted energy worrying about how I don't know how to do this.

            point still stands tho

alienation is a fuck, and if you can actually do those things youre doing better than the vast majority of folks ive ever interacted with

edit: myself included. like, those are unironically relationship goals for me, because its basically impossible to find people to actually engage with

my mission in life is to kill alienation. I hate it with an unbridled passion.

I also don't really know how to respond to the rest. I'm aware I have some skills that others don't but I'm always surprised by what they are.

you seem to be taking it as such an easy thing to do, but thats not always the case for folks, like, i have to make a conscious effort to share part of who i am when interacting with people because that just isnt something that comes naturally to me.

it's never easy. it's scary and it leaves you vulnerable. but it's also the only way to beat alienation.

it took me a lot of practice. I used to be nothing but walls.

yea, it took me a lot of introspection to figure out why. every kind of trauma gets in the way and the walls will be there, thorns intact, until you've dealt with it one piece at a time.

yea, it was the same for me for a long time. only thing that changed it was learning which parts of the maze were safe and using the map I was building to piece together an understanding of why the rest wasn't. in the end, it took an acid trip and a literal face to face conversation with myself to break through the worst walls.

offer real connection to all the people you care about. learn to tell the difference between superficial bonds and real, meaningful ones - try to build the latter with as many people as you can. work to turn your personal network into a real community. and abolish capitalism.
