We've gone from nearly tearing ourselves apart to complete left unity for the sake of :sicko-yes: . Who knows, maybe this is a sign that we can grow the fuck up and work together irl too.

This is what happens irl too. Never heard one argument between an ML and anarchist when the cops were charging

When we face opposition we come together

When fascists face opposition they fall apart

To make it incredibly succinct, this community's proximity to the general Reddit crowd has always meant that a certain amount of latent problematic-ness has been present. Some of our adjacent communities are worse than ours of course (cough cough). Some users have felt put off by this, and the mods' want to stamp it out. This has caused some users to call the reaction out as "mod overreach" and whatever (classic subreddit drama stuff, what's new?). There's also some evidence that outsiders have taken advantage of the situation and amplified certain viewpoints to stir drama themselves.

I think all of the infighting stemmed from a lack of news to follow. We didn't have anything to talk about and now we have :party-sicko:

With Biden coming into office, I think it will lend itself to more unifying topics to discuss angrily/comically together.

Honestly, chuds too.... I was a right winger at the beginning of the Obama admin and leftists w/ the Occupy movement were able make me at least a Dem Socialist.

Outright bigotry wasn't as prominent among conservatives back then as it is now, so I am not so sure how well that will work this go around, but it's possible that people will change. Some are too far gone though definitely.

lots of drama, it doesn't matter except in its effects going forwards, which are not yet apparent but I hope ultimately positive

so basically don't worry about it. Unless you're a transphobe, then be afraid

No, we've pretty much been united about pronouns since then, it's been lots of other stuff, with an indeterminate amount of it being astroturfed
