oh man i'm so excited for another previously neutral symbol of internet dumbass culture to be claimed by and quickly ceded to the right. love to see it every time.

It's funny cuz pepe is still all over twitch, and on the channels I frequent, in an entirely neutral context

          Pepe got reclaimed cmv

literally only on twitch, and even there it's not too uncommon for socdems/left-liberals to autoremove comments with pepe emotes.

it only shows up in chat with BTTV, Twitch doesn't have any global emotes with it

until we hit peak meme, then increasing scarcity will drive meme markets into disarray and increase strain on middle class content aggregators.

this is good but this will also create ten billion angry gamers that will jump on gootecks' side and get radicalized into qanon covid truthers etc

Yeah I'm conflicted on this, on the one hand I realize the emote is going to become a nazi dogwhistles overnight, on the other hand banning an emote is the type of thing that I know will come back as a dumb culture war issue that will peel off otherwise winnable people.

IMO considering that Gootecks hated that his face from a dumb video in 2013 was used as a meme emote, he's probably thrilled. I don't know if it would have been better to just do nothing but you're definitely right that its just going to make it another banner of reaction.

Is his twitch account also suspended? Because it's be weird to remove the emote but let him keep earning from twitch.

The frozen/thawed peaches joke always makes me want peach compote so badly, wtf. Freezing and thawing has nothing to do with the compote making process!

its a twitch emote that spawned a load of similar and parady emotes, and is used a shittonne. It is for twitch like what pikachu is for pokemon, kind of a symbol of the platform, and, to a lesser extent, this generation of gaming culture/content in general. like, the name has become something that people just use in coversation, even outloud irl in some groups (me and my mates are definately guilty of this ngl) - the same might be said about a few other twitch emotes, but to nowhere near the same extent. people are going to notice this whether they saw the announcement or not, and a certain amount are going to be extremely salty, but then again its gamers, so thats not much new really.

I am shocked at how reasonable the /r/LSF thread on this is, I expected Full Gamer Meltdown.
