the marshall plan was strictly so europe would stay loyal to the united states following the war. if the soviets hadn't been around, there would have been no need for it and europe probably would have stayed in the stone age following the massive bombing campaigns carried out during the war.
Yeah ,.. no ,... Marschall Pact isn't that important,... Turkey got more Marschall Pact money then Germany ... It was a little kick that was helpfull , but its arrogant to assume that Europe would not have rebuild without it. Look at the restaurations in Kobane or Aleppo , and they dont have no Marschall Pact , they are under world wide sanctions...and still.. . people tear down and rebuild allways...
True, if it wasn't for the american aid europeans would just wallow in the mud wondering what to do for the past 80 years. Love the smell of US propaganda in the morning.
so what? they knew how to rebuild shit already especially after WWI. American capital certainly helped but they would have been able to do it themselves
The soviets also did the bulk of the work defeating the nazis so yeah.
Ah I think I might disagree. I think US hegemony would have just been achieved way faster. Too many people/resources/land for capitalists to resist
Americans also needed markets to sell their shit to, ones with money to buy it with.
Not that it was good but mid-century capital was a bit more forward thinking than now given the historical context, and looked beyond Q3 gains.
If it weren't for the Soviets, there would have been no Marshall plan, because all of Europe would have been Germany.
This is the same logic used to explain why capitalism is so great. Competition initiates progress and without it bill gates never would have invented the iphone.
