There's these, the butcher AMA yesterday and the glut of people losing their shit trying to justify eating animals on a c/vegan thread. People who are meat were open about it but there wasn't this weird pro-meat thing until recently. It's sus.

It's a small community of very, very online people. I'd chalk it up to cross-pollination.

Give it a month and there will be an impromptu geology week or something.

There isn't a community on here dedicated to anti-geology and no one has a political stance on geology

we need to make sure that in our farming we keep the soil intact and don't mismanage it as North Korea had done in the 80s. This, combined with the collapse of the USSR, drought, and capitalist embargo led to major famine; if we want to sustain the revolution we must keep the people fed. Soil preservation techniques are a must for any socialist project

Yeah, geology people just wanna look at rocks all day but they got roped into capitalism hard by oil barons :deeper-sadness:

It really does suck. My buddy majored in geology. He's a valet at a ski resort now. He couldn't find a job that didn't make him feel awful.

Exactly, what was the point ? Nobody ever went "Cows are noble creatures that only eat grass. From now own I will be 'vegan' and only eat predator meet, wolves burgers here I come".

Now I have this image if David Attenborough narrowing the stalking of wild birds through the tall grasses of the savanna by a milk cow bell and all.

I wish mental images could be projected through the internet. Just every big cat or wolf scene but cows instead.

An arctic fawn, separated from his heard is left in quite a vulnerable position....and the cows have taken notice.

I am still thinking about a cow crouching through the grass. I am thinking this is a Chick Filet commercial. God... we are all broken aren't we?

When there exists sincere effortposts about how cows eat chickens so vegans are wrong...it's hard to tell what's real anymore. David Attenborough narrating vicious predatory wild dairy cows is pretty great as well. Don't worry about it.

As the butcher's assistant from yesterday I just want to say o7 to all my vegan comrades. Eating meat is bad folks. I try to limit the amount I consume as much as possible. When I plan my own meals I normally don't eat meat even if I enjoy it occasionally.

Yeah I just thought it would be enlightening to share aspects of my job in a manner that glorifies the labor aspect of my work. Butchering is a skilled profession that is dying. I don't endorse the cows aren't vegan guy. Obviously humans have the awareness that we shouldn't eat meat. I'm hoping cloned meat replaces normal meat soon and in a sustainable manner.

If you're gonna do something wrong, might as well do it right. I took your thing for what it was, until today when it seemed like maybe it was part of a pattern. I thought it was a bit odd to see on a leftist board but that's me forgetting that a lot of leftists don't care about industrial level genocide if they get buggies and epic bacon out of it

I 100% apologize for starting the meat struggle session. I mentioned it elsewhere but my s/o is vegetarian and so I eat that way most of the time. That of course, is the bare minimum I should be doing. Thank you for raising the concern about these posts mate. I saw in one of the meat posts people were discussing some sort of chicken substitute so at least that good came out of this.

I should also apologize for even dragging you into this as well. It coincidentally fell into a weird list pattern. I was actually gonna do a bit of vegan snark in the AMA but liked thatit was being used for someone to talk about their profession which I think is also cool and important, the two thoughts balanced into bme just keeping my mouth shut. I've worked in kitchens forever and have had to do meat work often, jobs are jobs. You seem like a really stand up person from your response to all this as well.

I took up being a butcher's assistant because at the time they were paying me more than when I was a cashier. Now I am just happy that I can tell an antimasker to fuck themselves and that I can use the restroom without getting permission. I understand where you were coming from with this thread no worries.

Sometimes i feel that i'm the only vegetarian on this site and everybody else is either vegan or wants to hunt and eat the geese in the city park.

I cut things out gradually and spent a while as a vegetarian, training wheels and shallow ends of the pool exist for a reason. Also the hunting geese in the park bit was hilarious and deserves some kind of monument.

Mostly because i hate it. Vegetarianism is kinda the default diet for me if i just go with what i actually enjoy eating, i never needed to give much thought to cutting it out of my diet or anything.

I'm vegetarian too. I have a lot of sympathy for veganism, but I have dietary restrictions that would make it difficult- not impossible, but I'd have to be pretty careful with it
