update: they got rid of it
Looks like there have been a series of related edits lately trying to sneak in socialist/left wing wording in a couple places.
At the top of the Talk page:
Fascism is a right-wing ideology.
The consensus of political scientists, historians, and other reliable sources is that Fascism is a right-wing ideology and not a left-wing one. This has been discussed numerous times. Please see this FAQ and read the talk page archives.. Please do not request that "right-wing" be changed to "left-wing"; your request will be denied, and you may be blocked from editing if you persist in doing so.
Acknowledging basic facts is something, I guess, based on the fact that I'm always hearing that Wikipedia editors are a bunch of chuds.
It still seems like a pretty big problem if some random chud can falsely claim that fascism is left wing and the biggest search engine on earth will regurgitate that as fact (with the inherent appearance of authority) to any normie looking it up.
In that talk page is some dude trying to distance right-wing ideology from fascism, and he opens with this.
I'm not a right-winger. In fact, I'm further left than most left-wingers. That said, I still understand when things are and are not neutral in point-of-view.
Dead giveaway this dude's a fascist.
Damn, was giving the control of information to a bunch of algorithms not capable of critical thought a mistake?
There can be more than one issue. It's both a problem that google's algorithm can be gamed, and that they can destroy independent left wing media by deprioritizing them in search results. Just in this instance is quite clearly an issue of the algorithm getting gamed.
It's like the big-brained rationalization on PCM on why Nazis should be considered AuthCenter.
When you allow commodification on the terrain of public debate and historical reality then the bourgeoisie will rob us of everything and sell us a retconned version which legitimizes their position :sadness:
Looks like someone edited the wiki article, it's been reverted now. If you check the history they also said "Socialist Nazi Germany".
I'm reading through history of this article and it's pretty funny. People are constantly trying to remove all references to fascism being right-wing
Also lol @ this idiot trying to reference Political Compass: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fascism&diff=991793732&oldid=991247402
Edit: lmao, political charts and their consequences etc: fascism should not be placed on the left–right spectrum, but rather on the small - large goverment spectrum, as it is a term to represent the opposite of anarchy
The talk page seems to be 53-archived-page-deep history of debating if it's right wing or not.
Wikipedia talk pages are some of the best posting content on the internet. Any article to do with not being a goddamn Nazi surely has some choice quotes in their Talk pages.
My favorite is the Communism article, solely because of there is guaranteed to be at least 1 "1000 BILLION PEOPLE WERE KILLED BY COMMUNSIM" argument on every new iteration of the talk page.
- "Congratulations, Comrades! You have managed to avoid any mention whatsoever of the inglorious death toll of communism. Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot are very pleased!"
- "[...] one merely has to take a glance at the weight classes in the USSR to know that starving peasants did not have the same income or wealth as Soviet athletes or Soviet leaders. That there was no attempt at communism or equality in the Soviet Union and other countries under regimes masquerading is socialist is extremely easy to prove"
- "I was doing research for Mass killings under communist regimes and was amazed at the killings perpetrated. Late Polish President Lech Kaczynski said billions were killed (Translation: "He emphasized that communism was a 'genocidal system that led to the murder of tens of billions of people.'") I am surprised that communist mass killing isn't mentioned in the lede. Thousands of times more people were murdered by genocidal communists than died in the genocidal Holocaust."
Although nothing melts the reader's brain more than the very serious debate over the validity of the 'Mass killings under communist regimes' article.
@Beatnik make "Congratulations, Comrades! You have managed to avoid any mention whatsoever of the inglorious death toll of communism. Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot are very pleased!" one of the home-page titles thanks :stalin-joking:
"socialist national socialist germany that loves socialism"
I think it's just that anyone can edit wikipedia, and the right are more motivated for equivocating in the wake of the left or the "left" getting good press. The change seems to have been reverted now.
The famous far-left ultranationalism. Where we believe that our nation is at the top of a heir-
Wait. This part must have been in Ch. 2 of Capital.
Workers of the world unite! To squash other workers of the world. - Karl Morx
It reads as
Fascism is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.
