Watching all that stuff with GameStop go down I just keep asking myself, how do we start doing shit like that?

Not only has this fucked over some billionaires, it's actually showing the general public how much of a joke the stock market!

Socialism will never come to America but Capitalism will collapse by the steady hands of shitposting redditors holding shares of a dying video game retailer.

I’ve been trying to give myself a break from social media but I’m tempted to reactivate my Facebook and tell everyone Capitalism needs to be abolished.

well it's partly because the american left is either lib shit, performative garbage or rightfully hibernating until people realize jokerfication is the equivalent of 19th century russian nihilism.

As someone who's an isolated and unemployed failson, I wish that "hibernating " was materially useful in any way lol.

This is probably not true. Unions and movement for 15 probably has cost corporations a lot, but there's no way to quantify that.

I think some late nineteen century Marxist from whom Lenin cribbed a bunch of theory on late capitalism and imperialism wrote about how financialization is good actually, because you can just nationalize the stonks.

        Yeah, him.

        spoiler

Hilferding saw an opportunity for a path to socialism that was distinct from the one foreseen by Marx: "The socializing function of finance capital facilitates enormously the task of overcoming capitalism. Once finance capital has brought the most importance (sic) branches of production under its control, it is enough for society, through its conscious executive organ – the state conquered by the working class – to seize finance capital in order to gain immediate control of these branches of production."[51] This would make it unnecessary to expropriate "peasant farms and small businesses" because they would be indirectly socialized, through the socialization of institutions upon which finance capital had already made them dependent. Thus, because a narrow class dominated the economy, socialist revolution could gain wider support by directly expropriating only from that narrow class. In particular, according to Hilferding, societies that had not reached the level of economic maturity anticipated by Marx as making them "ripe" for socialism could be opened to socialist possibilities.[52] Furthermore, "the policy of finance capital is bound to lead towards war, and hence to the unleashing of revolutionary storms."

I need to download Finance Capital. I've never gotten around to reading it because of how fucking expensive it is to buy.

These new exploits make capitalism playthroughs way more interesting. On one hand it is a lot of rng, but it gets rid of a lot of the grind needed to get the retirement ending

The incongruity between how one thinks the world does work according to some notional theory and how it actually does work is gonna drive all sorts of icky feelings and what not so I've given up on the notion that things writ large are explicable.
