Capitalists be like: Should we acknowledge and fix the problems that are driving people into suicide?

Nah let's just add positive images around :agony-immense:

Not to mention positive images can make things worse. It can be seen as "Here is the life you'll never have." or "This is all you have to look forwards to" which can be depressing if the positive things pictured aren't actually desirable to you. It can just make you feel worse and more alone.

suicide prevention, actual competent suicide prevention, starts with acknowledging that everything is awful, and maybe it is the right thing to do.

yes. then you go to "lets make sure there are no other solutions, go over it, then, if we can't find anything, yeah it might be time to go"

most of the time people are looking for connection, and starting with the socially prescribed script and ridgid socially prescribed values (from the society that likely caused all this pain in the first place and likely seem inescapable) pushed onto someone in such a way as to deprive them of any choice but the last one, that's, like; the literal stupidest thing you can do.

It's been longer ago than many of you have been alive, so I'm fine now, but I remember one of my schools doing this stunt where they dropped a card that said "you are loved" in every single locker. And it messed me up fierce for a while there.

At the time I just moved for reasons, and started attending not long beforehand, had zero friends, and I was looking into emancipation at that point because my home life and all my familial relationships were Bhopal level toxic, so thanks a lot for reminding me of that, fuckers.

its nice to know that its not just me who hates those baseless uwu positivity messages; the whole "you are valuable, people love you, things get better" shit being stamped everywhere just seems to nail home the fact that none of its true, because if it is why do people keep repeating it without any fucking evidence and/or arguement. i can be feeling pretty much okay and then that shit will just fuck me up for the rest of the day :angery:

It's like going to someone financially hurting and giving them $1k... in monopoly money.

If I can't actually do anything with it, what fucking good is it? Why even present it in the first place?

Like, all that validation shit is meaningless to me when there's an asterisk hanging over all of it which resolves to: oh no, not by me or anything, but yaknow, someone, hopefully

yeah when someone tells me to "be positive" I tell them that intentionally spreading HIV is sick and they should fucking kill themselves for doing something so horrible.

Wait, are those pictures of food? So it's like, "don't kill yourself! You could be eating Cheesecake right now!"

I mean, good point, I could just go eat a shit ton of cheesecake.

I'm not going to look it up to see if something like this has already happened because I don't want to know the answer.

Sung opened a shelter for homeless persons, male victims of violent crime, teenage runaways and gay and transgender people.

Sounds like a conflicted person unfortunately

This dude is super weird honestly. He was apparently pro-gay and trans rights, but also really anti things like maturity leave. He was also really opposed to anti-pornography laws.

He was also a business owner and some people think his main motivation for suicide was massive debts he owed, so my sympathies for him are limited, but yeah av very strange figure.

As someone who used to have serious suicide ideation, I can tell you that shit doesn’t work.

Surprised they didn't just add anti-suicide nets instead.

    This was probably cheaper.

im surprised they didn't have a sales rep just stand there and try to sell them washing machines or something (then again they'll probably want to kill themselves more)

Isn't there something with South Korea & Samsung where if the founder dies, the inheritance tax he has to pay is so massive that it'll bankrupt Samsung and throw like 30% of the country in to unemployment & instantly crash the economy, so they just pretend he's alive forever
