the title isn't even divisive or combative either. it's literally just asking a straightforward question. why are so many breadtube youtubers white? how fragile do you have to be for that to offend you

My thinking is that it's probably not offense as much as them trying to nudge people away from digging into Breatube's composition and finding out it's like 90% upper class white people who all know each other and cross-promote.

I don’t think it’s necessarily that conscious, but rather that lot of white people live in perpetual fear of being on the receiving end of what their ancestors did to people of color

From my experience growing up around chuds, there’s a lot of focus on “reverse racism” and fears of race riots, etc

Any mention of “white” by a person of color immediately causes fear

Some white people lose their shit spectacularly and immediately if you say certain things about racial issues. I don't even attack people or judge people, it's enough to say something like, "white people shouldn't say the n-word when quoting rap" and they go nuclear. One guy got so mad he responded with "we shouldn't coddle black people like that, saying words won't magically hurt them". Like holy shit dude, you're the sensitive one who wants to be coddled. All I said was you shouldn't use slurs.

Another comment literally continues on to say:

It creates this needless chasm of combativeness against white people when what we should be doing is not disparaging them but encouraging more POC to speak up and create quality content

If the non-whites were simply nicer to whites and created better content we wouldn't have this issue

White people that are reactionary about any criticism towards white people by poc will seize literally any opportunity to shut it down and talk over them.

Literally “poc should talk” “ok white people should reali-“ “no not like that!”

    Image description for screen readers:

The image is a screenshot of a Reddit post. The title of the post:

Kat Blaque discusses why her "Why is LeftTube so white?" Is still relevant

Two comments are highlighted in the screenshot. One, the most upvoted comment, begins:

The video was great and made a lot of sense but I can't help but think that the title was needlessly controversial/clickbaity and will lead to a lot of the bevahvoiur she's talking about

A response on the comment chain is also highlighted and says:

It is true but it is presented like it's a problem on lefttube fans only allowing white voices when the main issue is that POC lefttube content creators just aren't showing up to be heard to begin with.

Edit: this is not an accurate transcription because I made this comment for an /r/SLS post with a better screenshot that doesn't center my comments. Here's that picture .

I remember when breadtube first started taking off a long time back and someone made a decent effort post attempting to link and crowdsource more BIPOC "breadtubers" and they also touched on how white breadtube predominantly was. It has been well known for awhile now how white breadtube is, and there are quite a few good content creators who either outright reject the idea of being a part of breadtube or are simply indifferent to that title and it's pretty clear to me at least this is partially why (plus some recognize how radlib they are.) This has been a common theme and criqute for long enough and I've yet to personally see much change within that that community. However I don't check it often at all anymore but it seems like it has always been like this and I'm not gonna hate on your fav breadtubers but there is a lot of bougie ass posters and content creators there. Some of them are just unwatchable to me and I also think do disservice sometimes with how much these folks put faith into electoralism and creates very complacent people who think just watching a video is radical.

This is one of the things I like about ThoughtSlime. They at least try to signal-boost other creators, many of which have been POC in some way. Regardless of any personal disagreements people might have, that part's at least pretty chill.

I remember before them specifyi8ng they didn't want they/them (was it anything but they/them?) but then they got mad about people blowing up at others over it so now they just use they/them out of spite.

Yup, and there is some arguments to be made about linking more lib content creators but I don't really want to get too much into that. But I will say, I'm not entirely convinced breadtube isn't just gonna end up (or partially already has) as another form of mindless consumption packaged up as some type of activism. I don't watch enough of it anymore but I could not get over how little so many of them challenge how politics is actually done in this country. I'm sure there is some out there that are challenging this and encouraging people think beyond just electoralism, but just browsing the top posts on that sub it doesn't seem to be as popular of an idea over lib-adjacent ideology shit.

Unless I’m missing something bad empanada is very clearly Australian and just happens to live in South America. Maybe he has South American parents but I’m pretty sure he grew up and lived most of his life in Australia

He does have some good takes, and is very informative for non western topics in South America, but he also isn’t anti American for some reason. Imagine slandering Grayzone.

Yea his vids on Guevara are good it’s just funny how he can talk about imperialist propaganda in regards to Latin America but not extend that without that region. But I guess we’re all prone to those kinds of brain worms in the imperial core
