The lawsuit is the best part, it just screams out of touch elitism "Trump can't help people, he's the bad guy, we're supposed to do that"

Yes we know they'll use it in the future (both parties), but people are hurting now. And this props up Trump like a strong man cutting through the BS.

That's true about both parties, Pelosi is probably researching ways to resurrect Pete Peterson so she can fuck another re-animated corpse. I have no doubt in my mind that she gave her leverage away with CARES on purpose so this very situation would occur. She isn't stupid, but highly ideological and deeply cynical. She wants to punish the poors. Just a wretched human being through and through.

It's a pretty smart move by Trump - this clearly isn't within the purview of the president unless they let him, and if they do he can use it as precedent to build the border wall. So Dems pretty much have to stop him or else Congress abdicates its single largest power.

I mean, it is a constitutional crisis. They can't not contest it. The power to disperse funds lies with Congress and the President can't just go dole out funds wherever he desires. Leave it to the fucking Dems to get cornered like this fighting against immediate aid because muh Constitution though. They couldn't possibly make it any easier for the fascists to yeet their precious liberal democracy right out the window.

I totally agree. I'm just describing the thought process these ghouls are going through. I'm pointing out the limitations of deifying a fucking 230 year old piece of toiletpaper. I'm out of work myself. The extra money would go a long way.

The point I was trying to make is that standing in the way of people receiving aid in the middle of a crisis because of a liberal compulsion to constitutional order is a losing strategy, but that won't stop them because they are liberals. Their compulsion to observe precedent makes them predictable, and that is what allowed the Republicans to coax them right into this trap.

This is a teachable moment. It shows you exactly what idealism gets you.

They're printing money like theres no tomorrow, the only people who care about the "How are you gonna pay for it" is weak willed neolibs bs.

I suggest reading up on "Modern Monetary Theory" so you wont get trapped in this fallacy.

MMT is true and the payroll tax cut is an attempt to kill SS. Both are true.

of course they are. but just like the fed isn't bailing out local governments, they aren't going to use the money hose to fund SS. this is the same playbook they always use: defund - declare ineffective - privatise

It's an excuse to cut in the future for sure, but for right now your taxes don't do jack shit to change anything so the "during a pandemic" is bs.

The government doesn't wait to collect taxes before it funds shit, hasn't worked like that since US went of the gold standard.

The Federal Reserve is printing money to buy things to make sure there is liquidity, that's different from spending money on a program. The Fed could theoretically fund things if it was designed to do MMT but that isn't what it doing just now

MMT describes the flow of money in modern economies, when ever congress passes a bill theres a funding part attached that instructs to make funds available, that permeates through the banking system ensuring funds are available.

The issue of defunding medicare is correct, but is not something that will take effect until the next budget cycle when either party want to make it an issue, pretending that medicare will run out of money during the pandemic is a political argument championed by neolibs and conservatives but has little relation to material realities of a modern fiat economy.

The negotiations won't matter for 99% of the population, the words Trump, $400 and executive order is all they need to know and FOX news will make sure of that. The details of why congress couldn't deliver is boring shit that only the libs care about. This is once again the dems dropping the ball and letting trump easily out left them.

Call it what you want, I generally take the "out-lefting" term to mean as a matter of appearance and not as actual policy or held beliefs.
