I guess this ties in with the rise of minimalism and the end of creativity in design in general.

I hate how every Super Bowl logo is so boring now. It’s just a few chrome Roman numerals with the trophy in the middle. They tried putting the stadium or the host city’s skyline in the background for a few years, but now it’s literally just the fucking numbers and the trophy. Every fucking year. Super Bowl logos used to look cool. They used to make a unique logo each year. Someone put in actual creative effort to make those logos. Now they just copy-and-paste the same boring corporate bullshit into the next year’s logo, and probably get paid millions of dollars to do it.

Minimalism delenda est.

That's actually where the designers had the most fun with it, look at all those varied and colorful triple-X designs. And then it goes to shit immediately after the Xtra Large one

wow they just phoned it in the past 4 years, pathetic.

still salty we couldn't get Super Bowl L, that would have been an awesome logo.

This threw me off too. I don't follow the NFL so I thought it was "Super Bowl LIV" this year.

the ones you mention are the opposite of minimalist tho? gaudy and ugly in a very american way. in fact the xiii logo probably is the closest there to minimalism. its unhelpful call any corporate design you dont like minimalism (which is =/= lazy design)

Perhaps it isn't Minimalism™, but the new ones are literally just the numerals and the trophy. That's pretty damn minimal compared to the old ones.

The fact that the first one was called "world championship" is tickling me

Baseball still has the "world" series, which is equally funny for the same reason.

Design goes in trends just like any other kind of fashion.

Yes the last few have been REMARKABLY similar, but also look at the logos for 17 to 27 - they're all just basic variations on a theme that you can see very very slowly evolving over time. Blue and red for a decade, then yellows got brought in for a few years, the yellow slowly morphs to orange, etc etc.

And also we're already starting to see it evolve again - 51, 52 and 53 are all literally the same, that's true, but 54 and now 55 have tried something new with that theme, and I'm sure 56 will be even more different.

And honestly there's been way more variation from the Owl than there has been from wrestlemania and you'd THINK that those would be way more creative!

The IX in Superbowl IX looks like it's dancing to the Bee Gees, I can't unsee the bell bottoms.

Eventually it will just become a number

then it will become how we measure years.

eh, I like the newer logos. the old ones are too busy. I think minimalism is good. busy designs reflect the excesses of the bourgeoisie.

There's a secret cabal of swedes pulling the strings of the super bowl, trying to get Americans on board with uncreative, functional design
