Look, it's simple
She needs to be beautiful, but not too beautiful because otherwise I think she's overly vain
She needs to be smart, but not so smart she threatens my intelligence
She needs to be funny, but not more funny than I am
She needs to have political beliefs that align with mine
She needs to be straight, not political
She needs to be able to pass for white, not political
America Ferrera's speech in the Barbie movie sums it up nicely:
spoiler
"It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we're always doing it wrong.
You have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can't ask for money because that's crass. You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas. You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining. You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood.
But always stand out and always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful. You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line.
It's too hard! It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.
I'm just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us. And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don't even know."
It's wild that some people have takes like that. It's like yeah, art is made under capitalism and is definitely influenced by it, but it's still worthwhile to engage with the art.

My solution is just to watch it with the babies. Having kids cackle at some dumb jokes makes watching a kids movie fun, their laughter is infectious. I watched Avengers part whatever with my nephews and honestly had a good time even though it's total slop. Or maybe it was one of the Thor movies. I honestly couldn't give a shit. But the kids had fun so that's all I cared about. Plus I got some popcorn and some Mike and Ikes.
One of the funniest and depressing things I read in recent years was some dude saying "dune is proof you can make a star wars film for adults" and all I could think was "you are so close to understanding star wars is for children but still so far away."
For sure. I mean it's "all ages" entertainment. Who doesn't like seeing Chewbacca throw around some space nazis. But people take it too far. I feel bad for the kid who played Anakin. The star wars nerds really raked him over the coals and just... that poor boy never deserved that hate.
That's another example. Poor dude just did a job and they bullied him for it.
Literally partly my inspiration for that lol
it's a good piece
I think the ideology implied in the post is that they must not be funny or intelligent, but merely quiet and agreeable, and that there is no such thing as "too pretty" and anyone saying so is a feminist trying to make women ugly. Rather, she needs to look like someone who models as a full time job but never talk about the work done for if and never or rarely be visibly doing that work (the work of keeping up that appearance, obviously she can't be an actual model because then she is vain).
"woman smarter than her idiot husband/boyfriend/coworkers" has been a media mainstay since the golden age of the 1950s, why do you hate tradition mr quart?
I'm not super familiar with the addams family but weren't basically all of them smart and skilled at their own shit?
Yeah and they stuck together. Honestly pretty cool family dynamics.
All of them were quite intelligent but would also do a lot of dumb shit. Low wisdom, to put my nerd hat on.
would gladly trade every inhabitant in Gaza with 2.2 million gamers
fellas, is it gay to accept the presence of women in society??
sadly yes the only way to not be gay is to go on all male retreats and have sex exclusively with other men
Or the rugby club aproach if you want to be a homophobic man who has sex with other men
This is his bread and butter. I have to wonder how hollow he feels inside, doing the same thing over and over again, pandering to the same people who howl like hogs time and time again as he sings the same sad song.
Or maybe he's just too fucking stupid to realize how sad his life is.
It's probably one of those things where he's gotten to the point that if he stops to consider his actions, it would destroy whatever sense of self-worth he has left. He's gonna keep going because it's the only way he can sleep at night.
like the urge that drives serial killers to murder all their witnesses except it's his ego gradually murdering his soul
Gotta keep the gravy train going. What's he going to do, show his content to potential employers?
His content was a good resume for when he suggested to that he'd be a good fit for Twitter CEO. He said that and was probably dead serious.
Literal 10 year old behavior wtf. "I'm gonna be the president someday!"
"Potential employers" and other funny jokes he can tell himself
Isn't he the guy who got drunk and pissed himself on stream?
Edit: He is! He was mad that his (hopefully ex-) wife went out for pizza without him
Walt would 100% get into that bullshit. Walt had too much toxic masculinity to work in a cartel ffs
"Toxic mascu- Skylar, what are you...? What? I don't think I like what you're implying. Toxic? Me? Skylar, let's- I just need to say, Skylar, I am not toxic. And this whole, this, this, this masculinity thing, you said it was? Do you really believe a man is toxic, for, for being a man?"
Jesus that is 100% him.
"Walt, you kill people. Is this what being a man is to you?"
"Skylar, and what do you think it is that Hank is doing? He kills people, to provide for his family. Now how does that make me different from him? Hm? Because he gets to kill on the side of the law? Because he legally can? He's a murderer and I don't see you thinking less of him."
Is it really? I honestly don't know what would give it away..
I have been fooled if true..
its honestly pretty subtle if you're not an artist! AI art is famously bad with stylistic consistency, for example, the completely different shading styles of her forearm and her shirt, the line art suddenly not black/bold when we get to the pants, certain thinks that get you questionable looks if you do this professionally.
Devs: We've made every woman character a dumb bimbo who exists as sex appeal and you're still not satisfied?!
Beardo G*mergators: I just hate women.
Bro they made her look like the reverse bimbofication meme and she loves being on the computer, what more do these people want
Oh nvm its that guy, disregard
TheQuartering is STILL in victory dance mode over Gamergate, the nerd equivalent of a jock being washed up in his late 20s but still patting himself on the back for being the popular kid in high school that scored that big touchdown.
It's fun to laugh at them though, low-hanging fruits as they are
When will the videogame industry finally have the courage to design a female character with no depth and huge breasts?
They could release Custer's revenge and Ethnic Cleansing 2 in 1 collection. and have a title screen that says "THIS GAME WAS MADE BY REPUBLICANS AND WE FULLY ENDORSE THIS" and they will STILL call it woke because there is a minority woman in it.
There is at least a 15% chance that we are dealing with grown-ass men that still believe in cooties.
If she was instead the burly, strong sort the Gamers would hate that too. It's literally the same energy as that Parenti quote. I'm seeing it everywhere! "If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed; but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime's atheistic ideology."
Yeah I regret ever learning that quote. I see examples of it almost every single day for years now after reading it
The necronomicon is real and it's leftist theory. You read it, and feel fine. But then you start to notice all the things it pointed out, and that's what sends you mad.
Dude shes looks like one of those characters in a ad for some shitty mobile game
Hmmm something tells me g*mers don't want a woman being able to do anything better than them.
It's not like they'd be any happier if she was a violent soldier or weapons expert.
How insecure do you have to be to take offense at a fictional character being good at computers?
Masculinity that's as toxic as it is fragile. Brie Larson running around in front of a green screen didn't break these people, but it did highlight how broken their belief system is.
