This tactic is actually historically very successful. LGBT caucuses in Cuba and East Germany successfully pressured the party into legalization and even got transitions covered by the state healthcare. I don't see why a moderately sized furry caucus couldn't get something like a dedicated meeting hall and assistance in the formation of a fur suit co-op or something.

A lot of that is already baked into DSA because of the nature of progressive politics in America (if you see any TERFs in your chapter, crucify them please). If you think people in your DSA local don't really understand what furries are, even a one person caucus that people can come to with questions is better than nothing. Just make sure everyone knows that you're the one to come to for furry questions and just generally help people become more familiar with the concept.

Hey, it's still something that a lot of people can have negative initial reactions to. It's important to destigmatize stuff like that as much as you can. Don't center the issue if you don't feel it needs centering. It's still good to have a voice for that group within the chapter/party structure.

It's actually super simple. Usually you just talk with someone on the steering committee and let them know. I don't know how big your chapter is, but we have a few working groups that are only like 4 or 5 people strong that basically serve as advisory boards. If you just let them know that you'd be comfortable being the leiason for that minority, I'm sure they'll let you.

Would help with recruitment too. Of someone who's been recruited is a furry and immediately sees that there's a person they can talk to that has similar interests and helps represent them to the chapter.

Plus furry artists tend to make amazing agitprop.

What is the current state of mascots? Imagine if we went the Japan route were each state department had a mascot. You can be a furry but you were required to serve some government agency. Edit I have no idea where I'm going with this.

Some little "leftist" groups are leggit crazy. And you know the "LGBT is just burgeois decadency" shit is still around in some "leftists" if you dig in them.

I've seen a "recreational drugs like weed are bourgeois decadence" twitter thread yesterday.

This isn't a misrepresentation of their views, they were literally spewing DARE tier rhetoric.

So yeah overall OP's fears aren't entirely unfounded tbh.

Drugs are only bad if you overdo them. Every culture ever has some intoxicant or drug. It's kinda built-in to us as a species that we like that shit. And it's not just us. Cats like catnip. Bears love eating fermented berries and so on and so on.

That said a lot of the actual problems with drugs stem from capitalism. Needing to make money from drugs led to infinitely better drugs which are infinitely more addictive. It also leads to dealers cutting their product to sell more of it. It also puts people in prison because not the right people are making the money off of the drugs so they are bad now.

Everything is bad if you do it too much.

Reactionary views about drugs are often closely tied to reactionary views about other things like LGBTQ rights.

CPGB-ML are wild for this. Not only do they believe that LGBT+ activism is a weapon by the ruling classes to divide the left and trans people don't actually exist, they also claim that there isn't racism in Britain.

If you were to be put in the gulag, it would seem more like a spa in comparison to the penal system of the USA.
