it blew every american's minds. even chapo was impressed, 2000 bucks can change a lot in a person's life. but that was over 3 months of expenses ago now, in a sane world we'd be looking forward to a 3rd check right now instead of still arguing over the 2nd

remember when congress was fighting over 600 or 1000 bucks, and fucking donald j trump decided to say "fuck it, 2000 bucks." For a brief moment each of us imagined what we'd do with the money and things were good. Then congress overturned trump's veto in a bipartisan effort against good things happening

as a college student, i understand the difficulty, but i wouldn't exactly call what i do in college "functioning properly" either so...

Belgium did straight up 592 Days without a government.

I'm not sure whether this refutes or strengthens your point, I just thought I'd put it out there to add to the discussion.

more proof that belgium isn't real. but for real i bet that belgium at least pays its government employees during such crises

Coming from a neighbouring country, Belgium is very much real but it's less like a nation state and more like a loosely associated conglomerate of cultures of the flemish, the walloon, and all the EU lanyard folks.

                Good chips tho.

and the fact it was really Trump who brought the idea into the public's mind... really makes you realize what a joke dems are (as if we didn't already know that) but also how soon it will be that people will probably start missing Trump i bet ("at least HE wanted to give me $2000" or something)

You can be certain that he, or whomever he endorses, will make a huge deal out of it with something like “Joe/Kamala said they’d give you $2000, but they lied folks. I wanted to give American workers that and more, but the deep state stole the election to stop it. And just look at the news of health care prices that have risen over the last 4 years - we will fix that”.

Of course, should a Republican win they won’t do anything to help people at all, but they’re in a position now that they can make the most minimal promises and it would seem like a break with the drudgery of 4 years of Democratic austerity. Especially if a secular bear market starts sooner rather than later.

Yeah if i were him and planning to run in 2024, I’d bring it up all the damn time especially if the new $1400 checks never end up happening. It sadly is a good thing to bring up and gain support, given to him by the dems on a silver platter, especially 3 years later when no one really remembers how he also settled for just $600. But to most people, $1200+$600 will be better than $1400 or $0 in their longterm memory.

The $2000 only came up after like 5 months of Congress playing the Lucy / football game of "Oh we're JUST about to extend unemployment benefits! Whoops, we couldn't find the votes! Now we will take another vacation!" Now they've been yanking our chains over $1400 for another 5 months. That's the game -- the violence of delays.

I've been lucky enough to keep my full time job all through Covid, but when the first check came I thought it was going to be a monthly thing. When people would tell me, "No, it's just one check" I really thought they were just joking with me. Since then I've stopped laughing.

i remember a brief moment where some of us worried that nobody would be socialist since the check would change their lives so much. luckily for the movement, i guess that never happened

It's depressing how little will there is among democrats to use their power to do popular things that will help people.

My parents falsely claimed me as dependent in 2019 so I’ve been really looking forward to receiving this check as it’d be my first one, now I doubt I’ll get anything

every article i could find on the topic says adult dependents will get the new check, but the articles also say that checks would be sent out by the end of february so...

true as fuck. my bet is they'll send em eventually, but by the time it shows up it'll be too late. Pretty sure eviction moratoriums end march 31st, so they either have to send some money out or extend it to prevent catastrophe. But then again, its fucking congress, who knows

in a sane world we’d be looking forward to a 3rd check right now

please in a sane world you'd just give everyone who requested it money every month then claw it back on taxes if they weren't unemployed in that period like every other country on earth is doing
