and all it took was leaked audio recordings of corrupt prosecutor colluding with the judges
very critical support for Glenn Greenwald
He's been making an ass of himself lately, but I'll always respect how he played a major part in freeing Lula
It's been cautiously optimistic on the South American front lately. I really do not want to get my hopes up though.
Almost every South American country has wildly fluctuated between socialist and fascist. Usually due to US involvement.
But since the socialism comes "naturally" and the fascism is because of the US, there is hope that socialism is where things will ultimately land. Though it might not be possible until :amerikkka:
But since the socialism comes “naturally” and the fascism is because of the US
Socialism comes from native people while fascism comes from the settler colonialist heirs. Peronism was as "natural" as movements come. The hostility towards Maduro, Lula, and Morales wasn't a US invention. There's real domestic bigotry to grapple with.
Regional unity meaning all being socdem at the same time, or some kind of geopolitical unity?
eh tide goes in tide goes out. nothing will fundamentally change until US hegemony is destroyed.
US hegemony is slipping as the American economy is hollowed out by grifters.
i don't know but there was a recent poll in brazil that showed that lula had the best match up against bolsonaro and i would imagine that a full victory against the corruption charges would probably just consolidate that even more
even if he runs there's still very much a chance that Bolsonaro can win. i'll only be confident in an electoral loss from him once i see it.
This is seriously huge. We're in for a fun election next year, almost certain to be alt-right vs progressive-left.
"line go down" narrative immediately gaining traction in some places 🤔
I wonder if the media isn't actually against bolsonaro 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I wonder if the media isn’t actually against bolsonaro
Come on, surely a corporate entity that benefits from the precarization of public services and diminishing workers' rights couldn't be against his policies, right?
I mean, liberals are historically known for being the most anti-fascist group of people, right?
Oddly enough, they're actually kinda good in a succdem kind of way. They fucking hate Bolsonaro, as they should. r/brasilivre is the shitty chud version, the one with the evil twin goatee. Most reactions in r/brasil seem to be more like "oh man shit's gonna get real" and "what the fuck is going on right now".
