I’d dm, but gotta pump the comment numbers up: @rayne@hexbear.net what do you do with used substrate? Compost? Landfill :(? Also, what’s your take on people who’s brains haven’t fully developed taking shrooms?
RE; shrooms before your prefrontal cortex is fully developed- It's probably fine, there's absolutely no way it could be any worse than smoking weed or drinking. As far as I understand it, the primary mental health benefit of psychedelics is a massive increase to neuro-plasticity. Plus mushrooms aren't exactly an addictive substance, so I wouldn't worry about the primary concern, which is developing an addiction because your developing brain becomes dependent on a substance. I took acid for the first time when I was 16 and that was DEFINITELY not the problem for me (the problem was smoking weed and drinking everyday as a teenager.)
Ty for the response! Yeah, I don’t plan to become a stoner any time soon and I don’t even want to touch alcohol. Opinion on somewhat frequent microdosing (for ADHD)?
Microdosing 0.1g or less (depending on potency), every other day is a good regimen for an adult.
As far as your brain still developing, I can't see it being worse than taking ADHD medication daily or even an antidepressant everyday.
But microdosing you should have breaks, otherwise there's a possibility of heart issues from chronic stimulation of a receptor in the heart. Every other day was what was used in animal studies and it showed a lot of promise for depression and anxiety symptoms. Without any damage.
Even though it's not really being looked at for ADHD, I do believe it can help with that. It certainly helps me to slow down and be more mindful.
I looked it up, and it seems there was some study where a couple years like half of people switched from stimulants. Somewhat promising. Also, I’ve seen the recommendation once every three days.
I'm not sure about ADHD, I use psychedelics for "depression" and PTSD. I'm personally partial to macro dosing. Like instead of taking a little bit everyday, you take enough to get real high however often you see fit. For instance, the ket doses I get are strong enough for me to have out of body experiences and I only get them like once a month.
E: it's much harder to dose psilocybin reliably unless you're very familiar with mushrooms and the source you have. Personally, I have a source for really strong shrooms and I only like to take about 1-2 grams, that's my sweet spot.
Some of it I will actually re sterilize and reuse. What I don't we compost. We have vermicomposter and compost pile outside too.
My take, as a parent with a teenager, is that people should generally wait until they are adults to experiment with any substance. That said I had a lot of great times taking psychedelics as a teenager, and if set and setting is well respected I think it's pretty safe pharmacologically, as they're not something that you can do everyday like smoking weed.
The biggest danger is if set in setting isn't good. I had some very difficult trips when I was younger at parties that I certainly wouldn't want to wish on anybody. Well maybe some of our fucked up politicians, but you get the picture.
I suppose the old mycelium doesn’t necessarily get in the way. It’s kind of like that in the soil.
I recalled, lol. I feel like everyone’s take when I ask is “not gonna condone it, but do what you want you’ll probably be fine if you try to stay safe.” No one wants to be the one who got a minor to do drugs, but it doesn’t seem that risky.
Yeah, parties are rare fun anyway without substances involved.
