Of course one of you morons are gonna give me a lecture as to why it’s good to steal alcohol, or a much shorter answer of be gay do crimes, but I don’t see how stealing is justified. What if it was the Soviet Union?

      On that shoplifting guide, I always thought it would be cool to have something like a modern version of Steal This Book or The Jolly Roger Cookbook. I guess CrimethInc. does that sort of stuff, but it seems like something we (on this website) could maybe condense into a simple handy guide to help regular people survive in hell world.

    Context matters. I generally don’t feel bad about stealing from the following groups:

    1. The government
    2. Large corporations
    3. People who are objectively terrible and deserve to be robbed

    I wouldn’t steal from regular people, mom & pop shops, etc. or in any other situation where it causes measurable harm to someone who did nothing to deserve it.

    I know this is a copypasta joke, but I’ve been burglarized and it fucking sucks. Broken window, check fraud, collections coming after me for checks I didn’t write, insurance claims. The incident lasted over a year. Don’t steal from people. I’m indifferent to companies.

        so long as you aren't stealing in direct view of the employees (thus putting them in a position where they could be reprimanded for not taking action) you should be fine

      Every retail job I've worked tells you specifically that they have an entire department dedicated to stopping loss such as shoplifting. To me that translates to: "This is the amount of resources we have deemed it worth allocating to stopping shoplifting - any shoplifters we don't catch are entirely our fault". None of them have ever punished employees for not stopping shoplifting - but the times employees have stopped shoplifters, you can bet we didn't get anything for it.

    Steal products stolen from the labour of other proles. Is not stolen labour stuff? Do not steal.

    Also, commodities. If someone is hoarding stuff to make a profit, steal the shit out of it.

    I don't think it would be good to steal in a socialist society (not that it should be punished harshly because it happens for the same reasons still) but it basically isn't costing anyone anything under capitalism unless it's working class people being stolen from.
