Bonus: b-b-but what about our treats?
I want an emote of the bumbling male protagonist from the Kelly cartoons
What makes these worse is knowing there are more advanced brake systems that are mandated in Europe but we don’t have them here bc of regulatory capture
How would they have helped?
I'm genuinely asking. Brakes are mechanically a solved problem basically. Is it a maintenance thing?
Electronic controls basically

The wiki article says it's about signaling, that I understand, is that what was meant by advanced brake systems? I'm far from a train nerd
Yeah there’s that system that I believe automatically slows trains down if they’re exceeding the safe speed of the track and then there’s the electronic braking which applies all the brakes at the same time
No. What you tankies don't ever say (probably because you're working for Putin) is that Biden and Pete worked quietly behind the scenes to get the unions what they wanted but without ruining Christmas with their mean-spirited strike designed to hurt Democrats in the midterms.
… is usually the first reply to that point and it's like nails on a chalkboard. Digging a little deeper into it reveals that this was not the case .
Everyone went back to brunch once the IBEW—a union that represents ~5% of the industry and doesn't even represent the train crews whose rank-and-file were intent on striking—did a press release praising Biden for a measly 4 sick days (that were watered down from the 14 the unions were initially striking for or the 7 in the PEB-sponsored agreement) and didn't address the insane precision rail scheduling and draconian attendance policies imposed by the freight carriers, nor is the new policy universal across all unions. It infuriates me to no end that the gaslighting operation was once again successful, just like with Covid/Covid checks and the infrastructure bill switcharoo. People believe that these things were well-managed by Brandon and the Dems and it drives me nuts. Like, these motherfuckers stripped workers of one of the central tools they have to fight for better conditions without breaking a sweat, then stuck them with a joke of a deal and proceeded to pat themselves on the back (amidst a catastrophic rail disaster, no less!). It's truly a sickening country.
Some people engage with politics in other ways than the one way that is designed to be completely undemocratic; and more frequently than every 2 or 4 years.
joins ML instance
only lectures people on how to vote without providing any context, resources, or actual critique
So what's your deal anyway? Why don't you try posting on F*cebook? What are you trying to accomplish? Are you just a debate lord, or a masochist or some kind of operator? There has got to Be a better use of your time than debating literal anarchists and communists, any one of which likely dwarfs your political imagination with theory and praxis, on why they should vote for a capitalist party that is consciously and actively contributing to the mass-death of thousands of species including humanity.
Pretty funny of Butt Edge Edge to derail another train on this blessed genocide day celebration. Really brings all the festivities together
We have turkeys in the oven, we can't leave
Lmao what do you mean you can't leave?!? You want to die for turkey like a dumbass?!?
I think it's more along the lines of "the government doesn't do jack shit for us. It doesn't protect us from train derailments, but it does show up right before Thanksgiving to cancel our family meal and tell us to gtfo"
Even aside from the rest, my immediate reaction to that was that it was more like "the ovens are on, our house is gonna burn down"
Tbh I would probably say some shit like this. Train is already derailed. Y'all wanna stay for dinner?
I'm sympathetic people can often be in denial in the immediate wake of tragedy
Yeah you’re right idk what’s wrong with me
I feel bad for this person
crazy the kind of mundane nonsense people focus on in a tragedy
Burning a turkey is something you have immediate context for and experience with.
"Chemical spill releasing odorless, colorless fumes of death silently spreading through the countryside" isn't something most people have experienced before.
It's natural to focus on the issue, no matter how mundane, that you can immediately understand.
"Chemical spill releasing odorless, colorless fumes of death silently spreading through the countryside" isn't something most people have experienced before.
so far
Ironically the US exploited Chinese labor to build their railroads.
Now China could teach the US a bit about rail systems.
While you were partying I studied the railway
While you were doing imperialist wars I studied the train
While you were having treats I mastered infrastructure.
And now when the world is falling and the barbarians are at the gate you have the audacity to ask me for help.
Why they oughta ban trains, they kill people!
Chemical spill?
A mop and a hot water bucket should do the job
Its like the train cars are attracted to flowing rivers so they can spread the spill even further.
"You're evacuated. There's 12 to 14 Army Trucks by the bridge. The PLA are closing in with their tanks. You have to get out of here".
We said, "What about Thanksgiving?"
Greeting the PLA troops with a good meal is a nice way of showing them how grateful you are to be liberated.
