I dipped in there after the sub ban and it was actually a thriving community entirely its own and had nothing to do with the podcast or the main sub. It was a place where I could still learn how to be less of an ignorant American dumbshit. MTC added to my reading list right up to the last day. I had already long since mistrusted the Reddit admins and their empty platitudes about "free speech," but that sub ban just cemented what I had already known.
I don't think their regex was really thought out. They were probably looking at "chapo(X)" instead of "(Chapo)" [or whatever, I'm not a regex engineer].
Point is, the "moretankie" probably saved MTC than anything.
Nah, ChapoDogHouse is still around. I'm guessing it was based on user activity and/or reported posts; I dunno, I have no idea what the admins' tool kit is like over there. But yeah, it should have been easy enough for them to do a quick search query against the subreddits database table and identify anything with "chapo" in the name.
The few times I have seen the site admins explain themselves, this is exactly how they operated. They just get a database jockey to run the query, and the person who does the job is not involved with the site community in any way. A few of the founding admins were still competent enough to do bans themselves, but kn0thing was the last of that breed that I knew of and he just resigned.
I've just realized that I've been spending pretty much the entire year sitting in my room, staring angrily at American politics like a lunatic.
I need to get out more
It's still weird to me that they waited a few days before also banning moretankiechapo
But those were a beautiful few days

Wasn't it more like a few weeks?
Time online is so weird to me, so I had to look it up: Jun 29, Jul 10 respectively.
Summer has been so full of nothingness for me that I lose track of time.
I've just realized that I've been spending pretty much the entire year sitting in my room, staring angrily at American politics like a lunatic.
I need to get out more
RIP in peace.
