Hey I'm a software engineer and was one of the fabled "25 year old making 100k" people once upon a time not too long ago

    • rent was close to triple that
    • cell phone was double
    • internet was quadruple, tf are you getting 20/mo internet, dial up? Even Starbucks WiFi will run you higher than that
    • house cleaner??? you mean the broken off-brand roomba I bought off craigslist??? yeah it was like 30 in parts and 15 hours of labor to fix
    • health insurance was more than that per paycheck, prolly like 600/mo
    • groceries might've been close, dining out was certainly much higher cause I never had time to fucking cook
    • "donations" well yeah I wasn't gonna leave the People's Liberation Army of the Everglades to arm itself. Oh did you mean Beto's senate campaign?

Edit: these fuckers sure left off student loans didn't they

I mean, I'll give you that the alligators go hard, but they are easily defeated by air-conditioning. How far can you trust a comrade who falls asleep when a bucket of ice is dumped on them?

It's a stealth tactic, iguanas who go into stasis during the rare Florida frosts get picked up by people who think they're dead and plan to eat them then come back alive in the back seat ready to attack

Socialists are wimps. I literally just ask my boss for a raise and get one every time I go home and call him dad instead of Mr. Dad.

You can also neurodiverge your way into a software job, but rich parents certainly would've helped

Show me the software job that pays $100k right out of college in a city with $825/mo rent.

I softwared myself into a $50k job paying $850/mo rent ten years ago.

Makes $100k a year, saves 2/3 of it, yet doesn't have a car, otherwise transportation would be WAY more than $130 a month.

I spend like $100 a month on carpooling.

Drug of choice is more industry/profession related than income related. I've known relatively few programmers who used coke, let alone used it often. Other stimulants were preferred, in my experience (Adderall was more popular), but weed, booze, and hallucinogens/disassociants were more common. If a programmer was spending $600 on a drug, it was probably fancy wine or spirits. Business-bros were way more likely to use cocaine.

My experience from the tech business tells me that programmers are into booze, weed and (prescribed) ADHD medication. Coke is more a drug for the advertising industry.

In cheaper neighborhoods of cheaper cities this is probably feasible if it's a 1br.

Idk your experience but I have lived in less-expensive cities (still >1M metro) where you could get a 1br for 600-800, not too far from a bus line either.

Every single major news outlet that does one of these things is so off the mark on almost every single category it almost makes me think it's a conspiracy to gaslight people into thinking they're somehow bad with money because they don't have a $270/mo medical expenses or any other category

It is a conspiracy to gaslight people.

edit: and it works. Even if you believe it's a conspiracy it works.

    rent 825

jesus christ this is less than half of what a single bedroom or studio apartment is where I live. Love to make six figures and still be renting a room.
