The Textile Workers' Strike of 1934 began on this day that year and was the largest strike in U.S. history at the time, involving 400,000 textile workers from New England, the Mid-Atlantic states, and the U.S. Southern states, lasting twenty-two days.
Due to President Roosevelt's labor reforms, union membership grew greatly leading up to the strike - the United Textile Workers (UTW), which had no more than 15,000 members in February 1933, grew to 250,000 members by June 1934, of whom roughly half were cotton mill workers.
On September 3rd, thousands of workers took the streets in Gastonia, North Carolina to form a parade celebrating Labor Day, and the next day approximately 20,000 out of the 25,000 textile workers in the county were out on strike. Hundreds of thousands of textile workers across the country soon followed suit.
Strikers faced violence from both state police, private citizens, and private guards for the mills - Governor Blackwood of South Carolina announced that he would deputize the state's "mayors, sheriffs, peace officers and every good citizen" to maintain order, and accordingly, dozens of protesting workers were killed as martial law was declared and private guards fired into crowds across the country.
Results of the strike were mixed, but workers in the South fared particularly badly. Thousands of striking mill workers did not return to the mills, many others were blacklisted, and some union officials claimed victory, despite worker demands not being met.
Southern mill workers were in particular were extremely bitter at the union and its officials for calling off the strike and putting their faith in government boards, when the employers had conceded nothing.

I think we're at 72 hours since I last drank alcohol. Definitely having more prolonged pangs than the first day. The sensation to drink is far less in my face today though. To be honest, I was probably spending an average of at least $8 per day over the last few months, which is not cheap. That does not take into account all of the life changes I had to make in order to make an alcoholic lifestyle work. I was kind of able to afford it when I did construction because of constant overtime, but it was starting to eat into my savings when I switched to a regular job. Never drink by yourself folks, it can and will lead to years of problems.
I asked you folks if it's a bad thing that my dog licks his dick all day long, and someone answered, 'sounds like normal dog shit'.
I'm at the dog park and the boi is literally blowing his friends now. Hope you're hapy chapo.
Hello everyone my date went very well, among other things we talked about The Dollop and random educational youtubers, and we’re gonna see each other again Sunday and watch The Shining and Dr Sleep

This is for the right wingers who are lurking all of a sudden:
A new study conducted by a laboratory in south Florida was looking into the affects of ivermectin and its reaction in humans. The trial consisted of 50 volunteers, 30 male and 20 female, half whom already self medicating with Ivermectin before the trials had started. Ivermectin tablets were given to the patients orally, instead of the paste which is concluded to have 0 effects on humans, actually giving humans parasites. This is because some companies producing Ivermectin have contaminates in their factories, not enough to affect a horse but enough to show signs of infection in humans. Through a fecal test around 20% of those who were taking Ivermectin, they were hosts for various parasites ranging from whip worm to pin worm.
In 2 weeks one patient, a woman 42 years of age was confirmed dead as she had overdosed on the Ivermectin. The husband of the woman who was also part of the trial ended up dropping out but before he did, conductors of the experiment had found that the man had a “change in personality” he became more open about his repressed feelings stating “I have always liked men, my wife was holding me back”. In a bizarre twist, ivermectin has been said to have only affected the males in the experiment. 36% and counting had been “coming out” and revealing themselves to be homosexual when before the trials began, these same men had filled out forms stating they were heterosexual, many of them already in long term relationships with a female spouse. An explanation into the change of sexuality is not because Ivermectin is turning men gay, but because ivermectin contains the same qualities of that found on “truth serum”, an old term for a substance which rendered people unable to stop speaking and or telling truths about their lives. In a similar affect, the same happens with alcohol and other drugs, making the host more susceptible to giving away facts about their personal life.
Around 20 of the men who volunteered to be tested are now confirmed gay and because of this, the testing had to be stopped because the partners of the men forced their partners out of the experiment. Not enough evidence was found proving effectiveness against SARS COV-19 including the Delta and Mu variants.
I'm drunk for the first time since covid. I have also smoked cigarettes.
Nature is healing.
Anybody still carrying water for antivax fash need to read through the nursing subreddit. They’re all burnt out and livid they’re spending energy on unvaxed patients with little hope of survival:
