Working at Freedom House is the cushiest gig. You publish the exact same map over and over again and just change the header.
Getting into one of these think tanks thinking you get access to all sorts of juicy data that isn't publicly available, and realizing your job is to go through press releases and make sure your maps don't offend any S&P 500 companies
To do what, exactly?
"Computer says color patterns still match. Please insert new record to get the exact same results."
To make a GAN that generates these. It's always freedom freedom economic something, then the map coloring is roughly the same, so it should be learnable enough to have funny results.
Maybe just host this on https://icanhas.cheezburger.com with the titles removed
If it's free why do I have to pay for it?
And why is it covered in advertising even after I've paid for it?
And why does it require me to hand over my private details in order to use most of it?

Literally just got done diving into "Freedom House" and was coming here to say that. :amerikkka:
Sadly applicable to pretty much any thread about 'international rankings' and the Parenti quote goes with pretty much any thread about socialist countries
We need a :international-community: emote that’s just a picture of this same fucking map
Lol try sharing a paywalled science article and find out how free you are in the US or EU
Imo what China does with their internet has nothing to do with censoring any information or speach; it's not even any good at that anyway, VPNs are easy and available. It's all about excluding foreign tech companies from their market so that homegrown tech and grow and develop.
Ultimately if Chinese tech starts to eclipse western firms i wouldn't be surprised if the US tries to do the same thing, hopefully it'll just be too and late and in vain. The whole TikTok ban drama would be an early example of just such a thing
Ok which i guess now that I think about it if we're using the capitalist definition of freedom, which is just freedom for capital to do whatever it wants, then yeah China's internet isn't very free lmao
It’s all about excluding foreign tech companies from their market so that homegrown tech and grow and develop.
Without Facebook dominating social media market share in China, how will the Chinese get valuable informational headers about what is and is not fake news?
This is clearly an attack on western liberal values.
in Britain drill tracks that are too edgy get taken down by the police, like they will literally get youtube to completely take all versions of a song down that's too 'dangerous'. so idk about this shit, the UK has loads of censorship and is even trying to ban porn ffs
Reminder that 36% of Americans get most of their news from the NSA department we call Facebook.
Ireland
not assessed
Lol, I don't believe you. Aren't a ton ot tech giants technically headquartered there due to tax and regulations reasons? Zero chance that whatever organization did this isn't primarily considering regulations on tech giants and didn't evaluate Ireland.
Freedom House is an NGO that's almost completely funded by the US government
It's not free, you gotta pay money, that's a form of censorship
Is this a bit? I can't tell because it's phrased like one but 100% true.
Could change the map title to "Countries we have difficulty exploiting and manipulating with online content".
Doesn't a chunk of UK isps require opting in to porn or did that attempt fail?🤔
If that did happen, they sure as shit did it quietly because I have never had to deal with it nor heard about it. Given the fanfare that "banning" piratebay got on the news and such, i would figure a quasi-pornban would be a big announcement.
This was back in 2011: Biggest four UK ISPs switching to 'opt-in' system for pornography
I don't know what happened with that, but then I guess they tried and failed to do an age verification system in 2019: The UK's porn block is officially dead
