What a fascist, corporatist, militarist abomination this flag is. The federal blue. The shield with the stark, vertical red lines in it. Can't put a magnolia in it because flowers are for teh gays but we can take a magnolia and turn it into a pointy star. Looks like the logo a private security company would have. "In God We Trust" is mandated by law to be in the flag and it just heightens the fascist element. Then of course there's how it all ties together as a sort of homage to white supremacy - no nods at all to the large and significant black and indigenous history (and present) in the state. Just awful.
I live in Alabama, and really the only thing keeping me going is the knowledge that, you know, at least I'm not in Mississippi.
Alabama quick facts:
Population: 4.9 million
State flower: Camellia
State bird: Northern flicker
State motto: Tibi gratias ago Deo in Mississippi ("Thank god for Mississippi")
Except even in the handmaid's tale they'd go with something more subtle than In God We Trust
Saw this one too on r/leftvexicology. It's a little more left unity-y.
Probably not, you could come up with one! The closest real one in actual use is just whatever modern Antifa is using like here. The leftistvexicology sub has a few attempts, ranging from neat but obscure to pretty on the nose, and sometimes just a mashup of as many symbols as you can get on. It'd be neat to get this idea reworked onto a flag.
And of course, nothing's wrong with just a bunch of black flags and red flags marching together!
you can vote for a different flag here: https://www.mdah.ms.gov/flagpoll-top5
Flag 4 is in second placeFlag 2 is in second placeThey all suck but I voted for 2 to at least stop 1 from winni- oh god I'm a liberal now.
lmao it looks like an ad for a netflix show. why are americans so bad at designing flags
I mean it's a cool flag... For an antagonist. If someone made a movie where the us was a *more fascist theocratic type state this would be a great looking flash to represent that. As a real flag for a real place though it's horrid.
Why didn't they go with a burning cross like Robert Evans describes in his It Could Happen Here podcast?
