I have a pair of Ukrainian friends who are the sweetest people and the furthest thing from Nazis, both of whom introduced me to Russian culture, and ngl, I'm glad as fuck they don't know about my political stances on this conflict and haven't seen my posting history lol

Hey , what the fuck? I haven’t wished death upon anyone’s family. It’s incredibly offensive to say I don’t stand by my friends, suggesting I wish death on Ukrainians just because I might or might not have said Russia has legitimate grievances against the west.

The Ukrainian government should have been more mindful of Russia's security demands if they didn't want to get invaded. its not fair but thats what you have do when there's a nuclear-armed major power right next door. they could have probably gotten away with an elected zelensky government and their little civil war in the east as long as they disavowed nato, but they played tough with Russia and now their people are paying the price. the Ukrainian government is not blameless for the outbreak of hostilities.

The Ukrainian government was manipulated by NATO (who also funded and armed the Neo-Nazi groups), which is really unfortunate for the Ukrainian civilians who did nothing wrong.

Where the hell is anyone asserting that Ukrainians are all fascists? This is peak making up a guy and getting mad at him.

I think that has nothing to do with the Ukrainian people, and more to do with you being extremely hostile in this thread unprovoked. The reply you're referring to is at the bottom of the thread, after you already made all these comments.

most Ukrainians are not fascists anyone who believes that is dumb. the images of this war are horrifying and of course the common people with no say will pay the price. I just see a lot of people (not here really) demanding unwavering support of Ukraine's position when its Ukraine who was acting irresponsibly (with western encouragement)- continuous violations of Minsk accords, blowing off Russian demands. Keep poking a guy with a stick and he might punch you in the face, though Russia is still definitely the aggressive one here still. But westerners should not be wanting to involve themselves in this conflict besides ending the war as quickly as possible.

I understand you didn't mean it that way, but everyone reading definitely took it that way.

I'm not really trying to change your mind.

However, consider that "Russia's grievances" include the violation of the Minsk agreements and state-sanctioned/organized torture and killing of thousands of civilians in the Donbass by Ukrainian fascist groups, so you may not want to dismiss them so promptly.

Shame on you. Shame on you!

Shame on you, complicit supporter of the Azov terrorists, shame on you!

Shame on you, one who degrades the 8 years of terror that were suffered by the Russian and Jewish minority populations of the Ukraine to "Russian grievances" (holy shit), shame on you!

Shame on you! Shall I have to link to you the videos of random murders, of random terrorist acts the Azov terrorists have inflicted upon the local populations for the past 8 years? Shame on you!

Shame on you, who supports genocide in the Ukraine! Shame on you, who pretends that they never tried to literally ban the Russian language! Shame on you!

Shame on You, who pretends to be a socialist while openly supporting global American hegemony, shame on you!

You are no such socialist! You are a social fascist, supporter of imperialism, you capitalist bootlicker!

You are no comrade of mine.

"Russian grievances", is that really what you fucking think a literal genocide is?

Do not use the Ukrainian flag. If you really supported the Ukrainian people, you would be frothing in rage at the crimes committed by the Nazi goons of the Ukrainian state against the Ukrainian people, not spamming the Ukrainian flag like a fucking Vaush fan.

A true Ukrainian patriot is the biggest hater of the fascist Ukrainian state, who have sold out the entire country to the western bourgeoisie, let the country get pillaged and looted, let the Ukraine become one of the poorest countries in Europe.

Do not use the Ukrainian flag, the flag of German collaborators, in both the Great and World War.

                                        Do not.

OSCE report on the Azov terrorism: https://www.osce.org/files/f/documents/e/7/233896.pdf CW: NSFL descriptions

This is one of the videos of Azov thugs pulling people out of their cars and executing them: https://leftypol.org/leftypol_archive/src/1645908453116.mp4 CW: murder, screaming, gunfire, cameraman getting shot at

I am not going to link the crucifixion video holy fucking shit. Just search up "Azov Battalion crucifixion" if you really want to see it (you really don't)

Really recommend you read the OSCE report, it describes in detail the crimes and atrocities that were committed against the local populations by the Azov Battalion.

This just seems like bad advice in general , some of my friends are people who’s family history involves “escaping from communism” stories, should I burn all my bridges with them over something I can easily keep to myself.

I don't think you fully understand just how bad Azov Battalion is. To compare it to the Russian state is disingenuous at best.

Azov is bad but I can't side with bombing innocent civilians to smoke them out. Most Ukrainians have nothing to do with the 2014 coup or this war and I really really feel bad for them.

Makes sense to me. Horrible geopolitical events take an incredible toll and they're in the thick of it. It would be pretty difficult to talk about the issue on the level of the great power conflict and interests in-person without it coming across as dismissive of their suffering. Or seeing it posted by a friend elsewhere.

This applies to a lot of situations where one would provide critical support or even just not supporting something on principal when the outcome has serious personal consequences. There were people desperate to be rid of Trump because they were particularly vulnerable to his policies and staffing choices. Not a good group to jump into and say, "yeah but I'm not voting for Biden", you'd need to take them in a journey with your to understand your motivations and reasoning first.

The whole situation is a clusterfuck IMO. I can't blame Ukranians for becoming die-hard nationalists under these circumstances, but at the same time I cannot view this conflict as anything other than a proxy war. I work with a bunch of Poles, Russians, and Ukrainians (and a Yugoslavian babushka for good measure) and I have kept my lips buttoned about this. I don't even know where to start.

Oh, I don't live close to them and it's been a year since I've seen them, although our friendship was strong we never really shared our opinions on politics. TBH I don't even know what it is they're exactly thinking about this since I'm pretty sure one of them is of Russian ethnicity and the other has strong affinity towards Russian culture, all we've talked about is how terrible things are and how I hope their friends and family are safe.
