if you've been to the gate, there'll be a note in your inventory.
If you keep exploring in the lake/swamp area, either you'll get pointed towards the key or you'll stumble onto it by accident.
Also, you get the ability to respec your build like halfway through the game, though you need a rare resource to do so, so you can try out a dragonhead build if you want.
that makes sense, i instead went all the way to the north and got to a lame ass broken elevator then shrugged
didn't know about the respeccing, that's pretty rad. been trying to decide between the zweihander and greatsword right now, but i'll definitely look through my weapons and try to get some solid memes going now that i know i can just fuck my stats up no problem
