Don't forget Ukraine trying to cause a nuclear panic claiming a reactor was gonna go up like Chernobyl to get nato to intervene. That was fucking wild

Yeah, between the people who think that was possible, the people who think Nuclear War is cool and good and not a huge issue, the people who think that Russias nukes will all fail to launch, and the people who have very strange understandings about what a nuclear winter would be (one guy thought it would be a permanent ice age.) I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Rhodesian supporters joining the Ukrainian forces with Rhodesian insignia, neo nazi Ukrainian mayors getting interviewed on PBS news, Azov battalion training grannies for a photo op, Ukraine inventing Chinese students that don't actually exist as fake civilian casualties, Zelensky photographs of him in Kyiv actually from last year April and December, Zelensky actually in either Lviv or Poland, Ghost of Kyiv nonsense, Ukraine claiming to have killed 10 000 Russian troops already, Skully/snake island troops actually alive (can't remember the exact island name), and that's just what I can remember now.

The EU unilaterally declaring that member states would provide aircraft to Ukraine

Lindsay Graham calling for the assassination of the leader of a peer nuclear power

Ukraine National Guard proudly posting a video of the Azov battalion greasing bullets with pig fat

PBS casually interviewing a neo-Nazi mayor who had a portrait of Bandera on the wall behind him

The former COO of Ring doorbells in Ukraine doing influencer style posts with a rifle. All posts are in English, of course.

Wine moms using the word “thermobaric” whenever footage of an explosion is posted

I've been keeping a mental list of the bullshit propaganda, like fake Ghost of Kiev, Snake Island sacrificing themselves then miraculously being alive, the nuclear plant, those chinese students getting killed but never existing, all the photos from 2014 and video games passed off as current, Zelensky being in Kiev Lvov Poland Kiev again all while apparently dodging several dozen assassination attempts.

I was thinking about this earlier today and wondering if anyone was compiling a list similar to the "Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict" found at the top of each of these megathreads. I was thinking of trying to put one together, but it's a little beyond my ability rn. Maybe if there was a way for people here to contribute examples to an ongoing list, that might be a good way to go. Maybe someone can make an initial post, then everyone can add in examples with links in the comments, and edit the post accordingly? Kinda what's happening with your comment here, but as a whole post on it's own that can also be linked at the top of these megathreads. I dunno, it could never be exhaustive of course, but it would be a great resource, and something I for one really wish I had on hand to use when arguing with libs who think CNN is the bastion of truth with respect to what's going on.

According to RT, Ukrainian media reports that the Ukrainian secret police has killed one of the Ukrainian negotiators from the first round of talks under suspicion of "treason". Pro-russian Telegram accounts are sharing a picture of a very dead guy that looks like him.

Definitely gonna have to wait and see for additional details and confirmation but holy shit thats fucked up if true.

Edit: Ukranian news sites are now repeating it alongside claims from the SBU that they had evidence of high treason in the form of telephone communications.

Also so many fucking libs arguing that summary execution without due process for suspicion of treason is good actually.

If you keep exploring in the lake/swamp area, either you'll get pointed towards the key or you'll stumble onto it by accident.

Also, you get the ability to respec your build like halfway through the game, though you need a rare resource to do so, so you can try out a dragonhead build if you want.

I know Ukraine isn't unique in enacting the draft, but can we just acknowledge how absolutely fucked up it is that males 18-60 aren't allowed to evacuate? The country is holding half its population hostage and forcing them to kill or be killed.

I'm shocked at the ease in with the west targets average Russians. I just heard a formula one driver was kicked out of his team for being Russian. You have the weird FIFA thing where Russian teams will be removed, and there are countless other examples. Russians can't compete in the Paralympics? Why is this okay all of a sudden. Did I miss the collective memo from our overlords? They really are trying to erect an Iron curtain.

According to the DPR, the nationalist forces controlling Mariupol are not allowing civilians to leave the city via the humanitarian corridor.

Fuck every Nazi who uses civilians as human shields. I hope every last one of them meets a painful and immediate death.

@ASBMilitary: The Mariupol-Nikolskoe-Rozovka-Pologi-Orekhov-Zaporozhye route has been chosen as a humanitarian corridor, the authorities of Mariupol say.

Several stages of evacuation from Mariupol will be carried out over several days, so that everyone who wants to leave can do so

I hope this doesn't sound grandiose but Zelenskyy seems to be reinventing the world in front of our eyes—reimagining culture, borders, digital citizenship & leadership, even the idea of "living on Earth." If he is assassinated, the loss will be unfathomably great.

    Is that ironic or unironic?

    Answer

I've been following Gibson for a couple of years and it never ceases to surprise me how much of a lib the father of cyberpunk is. And people were going "it's such a politically radical genre" when that video game came out.

      • Huldra [they/them, it/its]

At least in all the cyberpunk stuff Ive consumed the radicalism seems confined to just observations that boil down to "the world sucks, capitalism and greed is evil" in various forms, and thats perfectly fine for capitalists, you can think capitalism sucks as much as you want, as long as you dont think theres a viable and preferable alternative. It's just a lot of fetishization of a personal or subcultural sense of radicalism and glorifying small symbolic victories that are somehow meant to prove some moral point.

The radical solution always either boils down to "upload oneself to the matrix (transhumanism) and live happily ever after" or "never touch the matrix again (primitivism) and live happily ever after". 😂

This is literally cultish gibberish, like what the fuck does any of these points mean, how is he reimagining culture, how is he reimagining borders, how is any of what he is doing reimagining "digital citizenship & leadership" and what the fuck does that mean, and what do you fucking mean he is reimagining the idea of living on earth.

Reading through russian media seems like de-militarization is the real goal huh, I’m mildly surprised. hope after mariupol falls they’ll jump into a treaty

      ·

I can’t see what else the goal would be, unless it really was some plan to split the world into East and West; to really solidify the Cold War that’s been ongoing (I do not however buy “denazification”)

Cause, Ukraine seems as fucked politically as the US, when it comes to internal matters anyway. I just can’t imagine Russia is really interested in the state-building and counter-insurgency—or, more accurately, sees that as even a medium-term viable solution.

I still suspect there were specific, concrete actions taken by the US/US-affiliated people that Russia acted in response to (not just the long term NATO stuff, but something more specific).

In hindsight, the US really looked like it was playing a game of chicken by talking about the “imminent” Russian invasion for weeks on end; you can just imagine some CIA spook telling his boss “I know sir we’ve been trying to trigger the invasion but he’s not taking the bait”.

I know that’s conspiracy brain but the insane US involvement just feels like it was very much a ginned-up situation and, frankly, it looks like the US/NATO found themselves in a situation they didn’t really expect. Russia just occupying the breakaway regions was probably what the US was going for; I imagine all parties saw that coming sooner or later, and I imagine the CIA encouraged the build up of whatever kind of anti-Russia fighters it could manage in the region to make it a quagmire.

Like obviously Russia was prepared to take military action against its semi-hostile neighbor; I imagine their government has always found it pragmatic to have a plan for such a thing. I don’t necessarily see that as a sign of aggression, so much as military competence

    • Abraxiel
      ·
      edit-2

It shouldn't really be understated that demilitarization is a nebulous and potentially very severe outcome. Without an army, even with something like a "defense force", a state pretty much has to get under someone else's umbrella. Presumably Russia still doesn't want Ukraine under the West's aegis, unless they simply want some agreement that means no or minimal military hardware or missiles will be in Ukraine. But that seems untenable long term. So I have to conclude, if we take demilitarization to be the goal, that Russia wants Ukraine as a sort of protectorate.

US considering sanctions on India after it abstained to vote on Russia at UN.

    https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/biden-administration-looking-whether-to-apply-or-waive-sanctions-on-india-under-caatsa-us-diplomat-2800400

All these sanctions are going to have the effect of pushing other countries away from the USD/Swift system and into the open arms of PRC and its CIPS, in my opinion.
