Best case Disney loses it's special status and decides to quit Florida. This in turn of course massively hits the Florida economy. Therefore they both get fucked.

    Come on do it

Lmao my ex is a Disney Adult and moved to Orlando like a year ago partially to be closer to the theme parks and I would find it so personally funny if this somehow leads to Disney leaving Florida.

Also ngl I really like going to theme parks, Disney theming aside, and I’d love to go to a future Disney in a city that doesn’t suck as bad as Orlando.

I still don't get what it even is...is it someone who still loves the movies and occasionally goes to a costume party as a princess, or is a technical nerd about how the parks are built and maintained?

Or is it the sort of person who changed their name to Gaston and goes to the theme park every 3 days while singing Frozen songs constantly.

It’s people who go to the Disney parks as much as they can, collect all Disney consumer goods, etc. like a child. People who love it even as adults. People who move to orlando to be closer to the park so they can go all the time, for instance. And who’s house is filled with Disney junk. They have :brainworms:

What's a good east coast state that they could move to as an alternative? I can't see Disney New York happening...Georgia?

Yes, Walt Disney was really big on planned communities. EPCOT was supposed to be the city of tomorrow. There's a Disney town called Celebration and it's just what you think it is. Moreover Disney has jurisdiction over the land the Disneyworld sits on.

What can I say, people really liked Disney back when Walt was alive. The evil piece of shit Michael Eisner took over in the 80s and it went downhill fast after that.

Disney World, not Disneyland, but yes. They get to write local laws, run their own emergency services, and do most of the other things local governments can do like build roads, power plants, etc.

Disneyland in California also has crazy influence on the government of Anaheim and receives water with a cushy deal as well as directing tax laws. But it does it in the liberal way, instead of Florida's corporate quasi-autonomy.

Disney just up and leaving would be painful, but probably not a disaster. De Santis and his people could well be making the calculus that Disney have enough sunk cost in WDW to just take this, and/or that there's plenty of other theme parks, tourist shit in general, and the boost from Chuds treating it like a mecca (similar to Texas' "growth explosion") that would make up for it over time.

        Disney just up and leaving

I think it would cost way more to pack up and leave than they're losing if they have to start paying taxes. Plus they can almost certainly turn public sentiment against the Florida legislature by raising prices and claiming they have to do it because of the taxes.

Ah the oldest trick in the book. I love when restaurants passively-aggressively post a sign or print out on their receipt that they had to add a surcharge because of some local tax.

Eh, I guess disney won’t raise too much fuss over it, although moving out of florida makes sense in general due to climate shit, so they can shop around for some tax breaks. :shrug-outta-hecks:

But where would they move to? Can't go too far north because then they'd have to have an off-season, can't move to Texas because it's run by the same weirdos, can't move to California because there's already a Disneyland there, can't really move to another Southern state because most of those states don't have the infrastructure needed for such a massive tourist destination. Not a lot of options

If you believe this is the only reason they’re doing it and not justification, sure. But “it” is grabbing a massive amount of $ for FL

A fascinating development of the Trump Era is the unfathomably rapid movement of reactionaries from "the left wants to take away Disney movies and sportsball" to "sportsball and Disney movies are Communism so in order to save Americs they must be taken away"

Disney Exec: "The safest thing to do is keep funding these politicians and issue completely toothless objections to them. That way the libs and the conservatives both get what they want."

    Florida: "Fuck you pay me."

Yes, they basically had everybody who endorsed the bill on their payroll. Donated to every single politician who signed it. When that became public, they tried to mititgate the PR damage by doing an enlightenend centrism: They stated that they'd keep donating to the same GOP ghouls, but would make up for it by offering more diversity in their movies. Which caused a complete meltdown among chuds.

Disney being targeted for cultural war shit kind of dampens the mood a bit. This is just typical fash shit not sure I can feel sicko about it.
