I'm sure they know what these symbols are, but what's the point in continuing to show them and not acknowledge them versus just editing around them?

It's plausible they don't, because "they" are in an industry that filters for people who buy into the State Department line on the war uncritically. It's also easy for these same people to dismiss any stories about fascist groups in Ukraine as Russian propaganda.
