Definitely don't google what year the shows gulag setting takes place and what year the gulags started closing to see hundreds of western cope articles about how technically maybe one was still open that year, but maybe not. The system began shutdown in the 60s, something that had been delayed massively by the drastic increase in using it during ww2 because you know, there was a couple things happening in europe at the time.

I know it's just a typo, but ML-ULTRA sounds like a weird leftcom-stalinist synthesis twitter handle.

Angloids have difficulties introspecting that the worst atrocities can also be part of their own system

Wild how every fucking piece of US media is like that

Lmao seriously. The Soviets are introduced as having taken what the Americans have done and seemingly taken it to the next level with no explanation. The American government has Eleven and is dedicating all this manpower to understanding the Upside Down but the Soviets have already figured out that the connection is strongest in Hawkins, have financed, built and established a base of operations in the mall and created a machine to open a portal. Then they managed to seemingly capture a part of the Mind Flayer, along with a bunch of Demodogs and at least one Demogorgon and brought them to this remote gulag in Siberia or wherever. But. In the course of their research, they weren't able to figure out their weakness to fire, so when the creatures are set loose, it's a veritable slaughter. So, the Soviets are simultaneously smart yet dumb.

i would probably go insane with happiness if some American media merely portrayed the soviets in just a neutral, state-doing-self-interested-things-to-get-by way.

People are pissed off that the martian had China help the rescue with a rocket, they would die if the thought of Russia, especially soviet Russia, doing something just because it's a country and not because it's evil was ever suggested.

I remember people defending Stranger Things both siding communism and US army. Also, a sort of struggle session post where a few said Stranger Things is just a parody of the 80s and nothing to be alarmed over. Guess what lib shits, you get this sort of brainworms from western chauvinists.

Oh yeah, I would definitely say that it's a parody of the 80s but then the image of the Soviet Union that the average American is accustomed to is a parody in itself, so ST merely reinforces these parodies to the point that it's essentially just reinforcing the "truth".

If 4chan culture taught us nothing else, it's that parody repeated oft enough becomes reality.
