I feel like John Quincy Adams should get some points for being against slavery, and defending the Amistad rebels in court. His worst crime is being generally ineffectual, which makes him far less harmful than a lot of those guys. He certainly shouldn't be on the same level as George W Bush, who is far too high up there.

yeah i mean maybe we're weighing nose hairs but i don't see how dubya isn't at the bottom with all the other demons. oversaw one of america's regular fascist freakouts, created the War on Terror, decimated civil liberties, emboldened the evangelical right, kneecapped the education system while giving handouts to the ruling class that led to a financial crisis, killed a million Iraqis, and he still has the gall to joke about it today.

Yeah and his administration also obliterated Syria, Honduras and Libya and threw the Maidan coup setting up the Ukraine crisis. Trump didn’t start any wars. Trump set up a withdrawal from Afghanistan and made advances in diplomacy with DPRK, while Obama was a more aggressive and effective purveyor of empire

            Lmao.

Obama was a more aggressive and effective purveyor of empire

He literally drone-striked Soleimani. The coups of Bolivia and Brazil happened under him. The Venezuelan crippling sanctions happened under him. Chinese trade war happened under him. I could go on and on.

Trump was as much a fucking tool of the State as Obama. On top of that, he opposed abortions, trans rights etc.

            Seriously. Get a grip.

The coups in Bolivia and Brazil have failed, leftists are back in power. Hence supporting my argument that Trump was a shittier imperialist. The soleimani assassination was so blatant and perfidious that the US lost major international support, it was crude and ineffectual and only aligned more forces against the empire. Obama would have done it low and slow and effectively, you would never have even heard of Soleimani.

Obama started the pivot to China, he started the sinophobic ramp up that Trump exploited.

Liberal Socialist you never stop getting owned by communists yet still feeling so confident in your wrong and liberal outlooks. None of this is to say Trump was good, but he was actually an incompetent buffoon who divided the core and fucked up everything he touched, which is actually the superior option to a competent fascist manager of empire like Obama

Oh no the settler-colonists inside the imperial core had to deal with a 3% more reactionary reactionary :( :(

The entire point I was making was that the US State operates at a level beyond what the President wants, especially in terms of foreign policy. It’s useless trying to compare Obama and trump. They both do what the cia, nsa etc want them to do, as is appropriate to the times. The difference comes out, marginally, in certain domestic/social issues, where Obama is much better (though still terrible).

the opposite is true. The one area where the executive has the most consolidated power is in the area of foreign policy and military engagements. Of course imperialist forces are pushing for war, the massive blob has an insatiable blood lust. However, the president and his party gets to chose which group of imperialists to back and how to back their interests specifically. That's where a competent and laser-focused president is dangerous to the world, whereas an idiotic one that keeps contradicting itself and is more inwardly antagonistic than outwardly causes massive strains and contradictions in the system.

domestic policy is basically controlled by the bourgeoisie, the president has no ability to pass legislation or control major portions of budgets.

You started the entire discussion by minimizing the vastly more marginalized, the global and colonized nations that make up the other 7 billion outside the core by stating obama was vastly better than trump. obama destroyed multiple nations. he went out of his way to expand imperialist destruction to hundreds of millions of people.

Trump barely tried, and where he did he failed hilariously (like in Venezuela :guaido: ). So I give him half a point for sucking at being evil.

Obama rightfully gets excoriated for formalizing the drone strike program, but their use skyrocketed under Trump, along with a huge increase in civilian casualties. Placing Trump higher than Obama is just wrong.

Drone strikes are a minor part of why Obama was bad. He presided over the biggest upward wealth transfer in American history & destroyed multiple nations with wars he went out of his way to start or expand (Honduras, Libya, Syria, ISIS was created by Obama's CIA, Yemen, Afghanistan as well as throughout Africa)

Trump had his tax cuts too btw. And his reckless initial handling of the covid 19 pandemic set the stage of the million+ deaths.

Also, tbf, he only had 4 years to wreck shit compared to obama’s eight.

And his reckless initial handling of the covid 19 pandemic set the stage of the million+ deaths.

Most of those deaths are under Biden. Biden took over after Trump but continued Trump's Covid policies or even loosened them. Trump did awfully against Covid compared to a socialist ideal but did about as well as can be expected under neoliberalism.
