I feel like the whole hand washing thing is a big psyop or something. Isn't covid like almost only spread through aerosols that you breath in? Obviously you should be keeping hands clean just in general because almost everything you touch is gross, but does covid actually spread on your hands if you aren't recklessly rubbing your face or like, handling food with dirty hands?
Maybe I'm just lucky but my main strategy of not getting covid is just masking and most importantly, distancing/avoiding other people's immediate airways whenever possible. It's insane to me that wherever you go in public there are a FUCK ton of visibly sick people (WHO SHOULD BE FUCKING HOME TO BEGIN WITH), and no one reacts when they cough?????? Like I'm getting at least 20 meters away from that person at all costs or walking through that area with holding my breath. Literally this meme but for unmasked people
Even before covid the first thing I do when I get home is wash my hands, solely on the basis of the number of people I've seen not wash their hands after using a public restroom.
CW - Disgusting
Many years ago I was in a restroom at the Akron, Ohio airport. A guy came out of a stall and walked to the sink, where he did not wash his hands but picked up his half-eaten sandwich and immediately left the restroom, eating said sandwich.
Yes, but:
- Covid is transmitted via hand contact in households i.e. shared surfaces, too.
https://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/244251/covid-19-spread-households-linked-virus-hands/
So wash your hands, wash your surfaces, wear masks if you share a household with someone infected, do air out frequently (not permanently) and get vaccines.
I was watching an anime the other day where this act of basic courtesy occurred (giving artistic license to the sneeze itself) and I was simultaneously pleased at the display but angry that apparently nobody in my fucking country can understand the concept of protecting not just themselves, but the people around them.
There's a Gintama episode where Gintoki has a cold and masks up.
Afaik covid doesn't really spread from surface contact in any meaingful way and that has been known for years.
going to be a cracker with great friends
Buddy, you got that right
So consider this a little reminder to do the right thing. Practise good hand hygiene and stay home if you feel sick.
Man it would be awful if Covid was incredibly contagious before the first onset of symptoms and/or airborne.
Wait a minute, I'm getting a report, it is indeed incredibly contagious before the first onset of symptoms AND airborne.
Tuesday morning, I got up early and typed an email to my colleague. “I’m going to work from home today, I’m not feeling the best. About to do a COVID test but pretty sure it’s just a cold ”
Sure, there's a virus that is as contagious as anything we've ever seen that is facing no attempt at mitigation, but COVID is over so it must just be a cold!
Every time my toddler brings home some illness, I'm busting out a COVID test like "aw fuck, is this :covid-cool:"
People are so dismissive of respiratory illness symptoms even after the last few years. It's so fucking frustrating.
This is what blows my mind the most, I don't understand how people reach that conclusion after the past 3.5 years. I immediately associate any kind of respiratory symptoms as covid. It's covid until proven otherwise.
Seriously! I cough a bit more than my chronic weed smoking forces me to and covid is my first thought. And I haven’t even had it!
People need to stop coughing without covering their faces. No a balled up fist doesn’t count as covering it.
This is one of my bigger pet peeves. Like, we all just lived through/are still living through this shit. And then some old fuck will just have a big, wet, open-mouthed cough in a grocery store and I just want to slap them
This kind of thing is why i gave up on being normal and wear a full face respirator when I go out. Yeah, i look like a freak, but i (probably) don't have covid.
My pre-COVID strategy of "lift your collar and sneeze down your shirt" looked stupid, but who's laughing now?
"Practice good hygiene and stay home when you're sick"
This person has learned nothing since March 2020.
I mean even this is still better than some people I know; "I'm a clean eater so I'm basically immune lol"
If 18 of them got covid there's a statistical likelihood that 2 of them will end up disabled with long covid.
We all want to believe COVID is something that has come and gone but sadly "back then" is still here. That doesn't mean we have to stop living our lives or singing 80s power ballads at the top of our lungs with our mates but it does mean we need to remain cautious and help mitigate the risks
How the FUCK do you think you mitigate the risks? YOU STOP HAVING SOCIAL ACTIVITIES LIKE THAT. You do stuff outdoors. You wear masks. If nothing has changed, our responses shouldn't change either.
Practice good hand hygiene and stay home if you feel sick

WASHING YOUR HANDS DOES NOTHING
Damn that's a bummer, really sorry to hear that. Hope you recover soon ❤️
I'm legit at the hospital rn for some tests and no joke I've only seen 4 people masked up. Like 5% of the people I've seen. I haven't been to a hospital in like a year and normally almost everyone wears one. It feels so weird
Oh woops lol just noticed the link haha
My work is connected to a hospital (and that’s where the places go get food are) and every time I walk in there I’m shocked to see even most of the doctors aren’t wearing masks. It’s insanity.
