I would like to mention though, that I was critiqued by (western) MLs and (Western/Southern American) Trotzkists for advocating for kitchens for all and social programs which ensure food security esp. for kids and some parts of the working class. Why? Cause "Marxism is revolutionary and revolution doesn't happen by creating food kitchens and food donation places."

"Marxism is revolutionary and revolution doesn't happen by creating food kitchens and food donation places."

When we were doing mutual aid during the pandemic, the easiest way to get your foot in the door for Marxism was when you were the friendly person handing a crate of food, not the scowling weirdo on the keyboard.

Even the cartels understood this lol. This is why a lot of poor communities support them despite their deranged evilness. At the end of the day, no matter how just and moral your cause is, humans have to eat. If your cause is too high and mighty to feed others, then you can’t complain when they choose the other options

Apparently this was a factor in the Muslim conquest in the 6th and 7th centuries. The Muslims would invade, take all your stuff, tell you what they expected in taxes next year, and then leave you alone. And if you converted you'd get all the perks of being Muslims. For many of the areas they invaded this was a better deal than they were getting from their local rulers so people put up with it and the conquest went relatively smoothly for a conquest, exploding from Arabia all the way to Spain and a good ways out east in like two centuries. You can be the bad guys as long as you're not the worst guys.

yes it really does. Look at the church and all the power they have in society. At the end of the day that power comes from running events, community support programs and childcare in places without much of that

There is power in being the people that people go to when they are down and out

Free school meals are such a small (from a financial and tax perspective) and feel-good issue that even libs support it. You have to be crazy to be against this, it is not like it costs a lot or there is some big demographic just clamoring for school meals to not be free.

I think being a liberal is more about cleaning up the messes of those to the right of you. They are just trying to preserve the system at all costs.

What we percieve as incompetance is their ideology preventing them from actually understanding their system.

So when they mess up they did the best they could, they did things the right way. So they take a deep breath, square their shoulders and continue marching on.

They view us as rabble rousers undermining their credibility. They dismiss us for doing things the wrong way. Like grownups shushing the kids table at thanksgiving

It's not necessarily about government. It is about indoctrination into the ideology of private property. Free lunches represent a contradiction in that ideology and therefore cannot be tolerated lest they allow people to question private property as an institution.

it's the belief that getting something for nothing breaks something in you and that pain is an instructor that makes you better.

To the mind of a conservative like Thatcher she was helping the children become more moral by making them poorer and their lives worse

In North Korea, the Supreme Leader and his cronies conspire to starve the children. They do this in other to increase desperation and the children are forced to "volunteer" to work at an early age, lest they incur school lunch debt and get hunted down by the Secret Police Forces. In addition, this is also done because North Korea does not have enough food to give to children and must recycle uneaten prison rats and mush after the prisoners have already died.

I grew up on reduced cost Lunch and even then almost never had the funds. You would preload an account but you couldn't see what was left without holding up the line, and the lunch lady at the register (a fucking register) would always humiliate any kid that didn't have money. "NO FREE MEALS" literally yelled as loud as possible. Fuck TX. Death to Amerikkka. You KNOW Dems have already caved behind the scenes. This country hates children.

In my school (blue state) anyone who couldn't afford lunch just got a single, relatively small grilled cheese sandwich and nothing else, not an apple, not a carton of milk, nothing. Guess empty carbs that'll keep you from being hungry for another hour is the liberal compromise?

Mind you I just graduated high school a couple years ago ago and I still saw that happen semi often

This was late 90s / early 2000s. They would offer a peanut butter sandwich and a water cup, but the peanut butter was like... off. Very thick and salty, unsweetened with a dirt after-taste. Plus you had to ask in front of your class for it in line so I never did it more than a couple times.

not an apple, not a carton of milk, nothing

Nutrition isn't for the poors according to American ISDs I guess.

I've said this on here before, but my mom was a lunch lady at a small school. It was like her and some other lady that did the cooking, then the lady who ran the register.

Giving out just the peanut butter sandwich with the required milk and vegetable or whatever was something they all refused to do.

Mom would just make a tray and set it in this window thing where they could just grab it, subtle, no big deal. You cannot give three rural ass Midwest moms a bunch of food and tell them to deny it to school children.

If I want to have mom sound like a communist, I just mention that they give kids at school bad lunches for no money.

My brothers in Christ, the one thing this country does right is having a ton of cheap food. Shouldn't having universal lunches be a complete non-issue? I'm sure that if I ran a study, we would find that such a policy somehow even pays for itself enough to warrant a tax cut. Debates on the logistics? Sure. But making this a priority and then trying to act all sanctimonious about it? Fuck off.

Look at how much food goes to waste, for example. How the hell can universal school lunches be that expensive? I'm sure that if I was a parent, I'd probably pay more in taxes from the sales tax on food I would buy for my child's lunches than I would for being taxed to fund school lunches. Granted, I don't think there should be a sales tax on most foodstuffs, but that's a debate for another day.

Food is cheap thanks to billions of dollars in FDA farm subsidies. So most of our food is already paid for. It could be even cheaper if farms weren't told by the government (acting on behalf of agricorps) to destroy surplus crops in order to keep food prices just high enough to be profitable.

The world is horrible as it is today but it didn't have to be like that. A better world is possible.

In a socialist society schools would prepare tasty, healthy and nutritious meals for students and staff using local ingredients. Maybe students would do some light tasks to help out in the kitchen and make them appreciate the labour that goes into the meal and students might get a say in the menu as an exercise in everyday self-management. The communal meals would be okay if the educational experience and nobody would be charged anything.

The GDR's schools were apparently some of the best in the world. Stasi State or Socialist Paradise goes in to it. Funnily (not funny) the fourth reich has actual class segregated schools where the amount of education you get is tied directly to your class bracket.

Is that an Ashes Ashes reference?

Also, I remember from one of the Moore documentaries (where to invade next?) seeing children in France be served nutritiuos and luxurious food and then being presented by Moore, or perhaps just form my own remembering that in the US, free food in public schools were basically processed garbage served in the same dehumanizing manner as prison food is.

I got the impression from people visiting or whom have emigrated to the US who heard about this public school food, that they thought it was a joke. They didn't conceive of conservatives, who are national chauvanists, to express such contempt to children when they saw those Styrofoam trays serving peanut butter sandwhiches and tatertots. And charging students for the "pleasure."

I know we blame our social systems for producing such misanthropic assholes but I can't help but wonder if these politicians are just a democratic reflection of a plurality of the country.
