From what I understand, what they changed was that they didn't want it to look like a playable character was literally part of a nazi organization anymore(just have an appropriate amount of fascist looking design cues), they didnt want there to be weird sexualization of a 16 year old character, and also they removed a police brutality scene from one story mode.

Baby shit to get mad at.

One dude in the replies is saying they should give refunds to people who 'bought a different game'. Gamers are absolute fucking babies.

In fairness Stellaris actually did change pretty dramatically since launch.

There's nothing stopping me from being one of those guys, but for bugs on the level of influence that skiing is to Tribes, instead of something like an item dupe glitch or damage exploit or a pixel nazi armband

Every balance update in a popular game is followed by people complaining, but it's only minor cosmetic changes that have people literally demanding their money back.

They really are. I made the mistake of engaging with the battlebit discord and aside from the usual heated-gamer-moment gamer moments heated-gamer-moment every complaint was people refusing to learn or use game mechanics and asking for changes so they could play the game alone, like how toddlers play next to each other but don't play with each other.

They didn't make Filia any less sexualized (just look at her idle animation), they just changed a scene where she got assaulted.

My favorite instance has to be Nintendo removing a warrior feather from Game&Watch's forward smash in Ultimate and the Pizza Tower dev being so mad that he put a blatant stereotype in his game.

Yes, unfortunately. I didn't keep up with the development so I only found this out as I was playing the level. There's several compilations of his discord screenshots (various CWs) painting him as an annoying chanlord and his only defense was literally "that was pretty cringe of me lol", and then he just kept the tribe cheese

I don't remember that existing, which means they had to have added a feather at some point between Melee and Ultimate lmao

Yep, up until sm4sh it's just ordinary G&W wielding the torch. Ultimate made more of his smash attacks references to actual games he had, including fucking "Fire Attack" for some reason.

The weird thing is that Nintendo had already censored the feather on GBA rereleases of G&W games, so I'm not sure how they didn't forsee the smash community being reactionary shitheads about it and just remove it from the start.

yeah im not totally sure i understand how it's possible, skullgirls is one of the horniest games ive ever played. feels like you're seeing more panties per minute than your average anime.

It's drawn by an actual hentai artist. This seems like McDonald's removing hamburgers from their menu.

That's only a reference to the one specific scene with Filia. I've reinstalled and checked and the only change to that scene is that they crop the image higher so you don't see the leg/ass grab now. Nothing else.

Not really sure that Filia's intro needed changing, it was a solidly depicted negative occurrence with good consequences and isn't exactly out of character for the 1940s setting or themes. It being grotesque worked there set the scene, era, setting and world rather well. Notable that they're changing nothing else about her just that intro scene, she's still an obviously sexually-designed character like every other female character in the game. This change seems to be entirely about not having a non-consent sexual assault in the game rather than desexualisation but that might be simply because completely changing character design for an established character is not really viable.

I'm not really cut up about it though. Lol.

I also really don't disagree with taking away a method for nazis to larp. Her players enjoyed playing as nazis too much. In fighting games players often use characters as a means of identity - there's a reason so many trans people play Bridget. If you make a character with fascist aesthetics you are creating a character for fascists to identify with.

Does anyone know what they're replacing Filia's intro scene with? I could reinstall and look. Is this update already pushed?

I took a look at the steam comments for this update and it's clearly been brigaded, 90% of the people complaining do not even have the game in their libraries.

You're better than this. That scene was clearly eroticized, which sexual assault shouldn't be, least of all child molesting.

I mean, yeah maybe? I could be brain poisoned or I could just have enjoyed the game too much to have really noticed but the feeling it always gave me was just like, "welcome to the 1940s, women are objects" but then this woman is also such a badass that the men can't get away with it.

Up until now I didn't even know Filia was canonically underage tbh if you'd asked me to guess her age I'd have said at least 18 without batting an eye so I hadn't even considered that scene in that light.

Like I said though, not cut up about it. I will reinstall this evening and take a look at how they changed it.

I haven't seen the change, but if you look at the original cutscene, it's clearly a porn-brained depiction of sexual assault. You can feature sexual assault in your art, even have it be a main element, without depicting it in an eroticized manner.

I don't have an interest in judging your character, but at the same time I think I was reflexively a bit distressed because there's a piece of shit on this board that goes to incredible lengths to defend the depiction of rape (etc.) in Goblin Slayer as "progressive, actually," so I kind of thought "God damn it, not you too!" Just being oblivious is whatever.

yeah just looked up that into and its super cringe panty shot shit and shes like underage

I tried that game when it was new and I liked the mechanics and ease of learning etc but damn playing it was too embarrassing tbh

When I saw the thing about them removing sexualization I had an image flash in my mind of the steam menu drop-down to "uninstall game files"

Yeah, it's mechanically a really excellent game and artistically occasionally it is actually really good, but it looks like a hentai game and some characters are creatively bankrupt porn tropes (notably Filia, who is the protagonist, and Valentine, who is the stand-in for the main antagonist; the side characters tend to be way better).

I can't blame you one bit for not being able to stand it. I can so long as it's not the very-worst characters on screen.

I found something actually bad. They removed the Soviet Announcer deeper-sadness

        https://youtu.be/XDZm80V1Swg

Nothing in this was bad or warranted removing, corny and kinda shit yeah but ehh I don't think you can say this needed removed. The only reason I can see for this removal is that Mike Z voiced it and the staff probably all hate his guts.

My only other thought is, could be Ukraine-Booster brain rot ("Russia Bad"), or both-sides-ist "anti-extremism", since they're also removing fash elements.

Based on other trends in changes by the company, I think it was for being Mike Z. I really enjoyed the voice, it wasn't even particularly "soviet" but just "drunk Russian". I think it's only "Soviet" because Mike and some others have a very pop-history WW2 fetish.
