Wouldn't be good for protestors. Wouldn't be good for anarchists. Wouldn't be good for people using someone else's ID for transit. If you're on this site, chances are you wouldn't be getting tax breaks for community service; you'd be getting blacklisted from trains for jaywalking or missing a dinner reservation. Like fuck, I'd consider myself a Tankie, but I don't see an upside remotely worth the cost of this.

Not to mention the surveillance required to make social credit viable. 'Actual credit in America is even worse!' is a bullshit argument too.

Because it's literally a credit score, for debt and loans. It's entire purpose is to serve exactly the same function that credit scores function in any other country.

You're freaking out about its effect on a bunch of things it has zero effect on at all. Your entire concept of it comes from people that have maliciously lied to you about what something with a scary name like "(social) credit score" could be if it were completely and totally different to how the Chinese are ACTUALLY implementing it.

In the west if you wish to get a loan, rent a place, get a phone etc. most countries will ask for bank statements, bills and other evidence that you have money and will be able to pay for things. When businesses make deals there's usually laws involved that require the businesses to be open about their finances to prevent anything dodgy. When going for a job many places want a background check, references and will usually look at your social media profiles (facebook, linkedin etc) as well as all the information you give on your resume. All your information is out there and judged before making any major decisions in life. China want to build trust by creating a credit system that basically puts all these things into one. All these systems are stupid and anti poor.

I get my info from the Credible Information Association and the Freedom and Benevolence Institute, so you know it's legit.

So it's like community service of sorts that is also region specific instead of being a permanent mark that follows you to your death like an American credit score?

“I totally know what it’s like to live in a country of 1 billion people that hasn’t even been a unified state for longer than a century”

“I also totally know that the remnants of imperialism, the hiccoughs of nascent capitalism/IMF loans/and endemic poverty and feudalistic cultural dogmas in India, plus all the “democratic freedoms” they enjoy, are far preferable to whatever it is goes on in China! bc I totally know, bc I get all my news & info from Western media!”

Obviously never lived in china, but I know what it's like to live in America, and I can tell you what the government would do if it had the tools to implement a social credit score. I wouldn't even be able to buy lunch. Also what's with the double post? Make a spelling mistake in the first one?

The government and business sector in America does have these tools.

The US government & corporate/tech sector in America are the ones who designed the facial recognition, AI & big data analysis infrastructure in PRC.

We are behind the drive to do this in China. Their industrial output efficiency is our 1st world meal ticket

Yeah, it's not nearly that bad here. I only need a 600+ credit score to qualify for an apartment in my area. They don't tell me how it's calculated so it's totally cool. I'd rather have a private company rating me and determining if I'm worthy of a 4% interest loan or a 40% interest loan.

    Liberals mad.

    cracks knuckles, okay

Wouldn’t be good for protestors. Wouldn’t be good for anarchists.

Uh neither is the police or army or intelligence apparatus under a capitalist state. Or for that matter having a heavily armed populace dedicated and marshaled to the dominant ideology if it's a capitalist state. It's almost like who is running things matters a lot. Almost like a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie is not the same as a dictatorship of the proletariat.

Done, there. That was quick and easy. These two things are not the same. Of course a lot of things under capitalism, done by capitalist governments in service of the western imperialist agenda are bad, not by their nature but by the nature of who/what they are done in service of.

I like how OP is tacitly assuming that the US government ISN'T already monitoring us all under constant watch and installing cameras outside of our driveways and hooking all this data up to license plate scanners so that police can know at a glance whether you've said wrongthink on the internet.

I guess they slept through the Snowden leaks because yes they have all the data. They're still working on the data science portion of fully profiling and neatly categorizing all of us in nice lists though. Guess they've also never heard of police fusion centers because if you're an activist, you have a file with them!

What's with the China bad scaremongering? Can we tone down the liberalism in here?
