I've always maintained that, although all US Presidents are going to Hell, Carter is the only one who seems to be aware of it (and is genuinely repentant).
He did support Indonesia and the East Timor genocide when he was President. But he also supported East Timor independence (during the 1990's) and was critical on reporting the 1999 massacre, which is weird.
