There were lots of people coughing and such everywhere I went. Burger brainworms plus fancy-rona having a field day it seems.

Traveling is the time I understand the least. Even if we somehow completely made covid disappear today you wouldn’t find me in an airport unmasked. I just don’t want to be sick when I’m traveling!

      this

It's a bit annoying and uncomfortable to be n95ed for a full day of traveling, but it's really the only thing that makes any sense these days.

I’m in airports basically every other day. I don’t travel as a passenger at all anymore. People just violently hacking and shivering, with one foot in the grave just up and getting on a plane with no mask on and in the middle seat. In almost all flights the locked door behind me is the only “mask” the death plague-infected passengers are “wearing”.

I went to the store yesterday and the cashier commented that day everyone she worked with had a mask on, including herself, so that's good.

Although, on the other hand, I took my aunt to another store the day before and when we were getting off the car I asked her if she needed a mask from my bag and she declined saying she doesn't wear one anymore and reminded me she had Covid recently anyway (wonder why) so she's "immune", I just laughed and was like "Okay, well, I'm not immune." She's a nurse.

Years before COVID I was in the hospital having a kidney removed. While I was recovering, one of my nurses started explaining why vaccines were dangerous. I've run into that kind of thing a lot with nurses over the years and I'll never fully understand. It's like they know just enough to be dangerous or something

Nurses know how to follow orders. Somewhat. Don’t assume more knowledge until they demonstrate it.

Oh, that's shitty. I hope you recovered well from that. But my aunt isn't antivaxx, to be fair to her, she has all her vaccines.

But she's just kinda anti-mask for some unknown reason, even though I know she wears one at work. My mom and I would visit her house sometimes right after the height of it and we'd be masked and she'd try to guilt us like, "Why do you have your mask on? I'm your sister/aunt." And we'd just be like Haha So fucking what?

Burgerland has decided lifelong debilitation and gurgling suffocating deaths are a fair trade for easier access to treats. grillman corona

I’m told by the boss that me wearing a mask is “scaring” the passengers.

It's fucking twisted how that's the new way to abolish masks... and it's working.

Combine that with FUD local news conspiracies about the latest extremely convoluted criminal plot to steal grills from suburban backyards - you know, the “stranger asking for directions is actually the first step in a criminal tactic to murder your whole family!” type copaganda - and how the evil MASKED ANTEEFUH HORDES are LEVELING CITIES, and you get the perfect recipe for some anti-mask militia to just start murdering people

Stealing people's grills was a Trailer Park Boys episode where Ricky uses kids to steal them since he think that absolved him of criminality because the kids are underage and the ones grabbing them.

CDC isn't pushing them and randos who try to educate on COVID get stuffed by algos. Maybe it's time to bring back pamphlets. Do you think Jack Chick might be willing to make a few COVID comics?

I honestly don't know. I assume it's ignorance, they don't know how ineffective the surgical masks are. But I see people chin diapering, too, so I really just don't know. The general public is as distant from me as I am from Sag A. I honestly have no idea at all what normal people think is happening.

Also, faint line on my rapid test today. Still +pos+

I wonder if the latest strains are, idk, more virulent, or something. A number of people who are very diligent about masking and precautions have caught it while travelling, mostly from family. : p

Or I guess maybe we're just getting sloppy five years in. I think that's what got me. I'm going to be more insistent that any restaurant meal must be outside or I won't be eating.

Reading this hits different the morning after getting sloshed in a friend's yard and realizing they brought you to a crowded restaurant after. I hate alcohol, I hate america.

I was literally just talking with that same friend about how neither of us want to get covid again :(

Yes, most of the ones I noticed were in this category unfortunately. At one point I noticed a younger person just using their hoodie as a make-shift mask held on by one hand while we were all waiting together. I guess seeing me and hearing various coughs got them thinking maybe it was worth trying something.

I remember in the very early days of the pandemic when leaving from a grocery run I caught sight of a guy walking in with his shirt pulled up and pinched over his nose the same way you do when your buddy farts on you in the car and you have to do something to keep from gagging. That’s about the point I considered we might be just a little doomed.

I did recently as well and I had a similar experience. Although I have to say, I saw more than I did the last time I flew in 2022. Plus a lot more airport employees wearing them.
