Obviously this is cringe af, but the comments here make me kinda sad. I haven't seen it in years but back in college my whole physics department was into it so I watched it, and I enjoyed it, it's fun and wholesome and well-written, they wanted to make it enjoyable to an adult audience so that parents wouldn't mind watching it too. I feel like a lot of people just assume its a sex thing (obviously it is for some people, but not everyone) because of a latent assumption that it's weird for men to have an interest in anything feminine. Almost similar to the mentality behind tropes about trans women trying to perv in bathrooms, though ofc I don't mean to equate the two.
It's not really a big deal I guess. Just don't see why we gotta shit on people for liking things.
Agreed! I watched one or two episodes for the lulz when I found out about Bronies (and because I had seen the earlier series as a kid) and came away with the same impression - it's super wholesome and would be fun to watch with children. Internet culture certainly takes it too far (like it does everything), but there's a healthy way to like MLP.
I think every brony I've met first watched the show because they wanted to figure out what the deal was with bronies and then got hooked.
What's this heroin business all about? It can't be that good, can it??
I'm pretty sure even the most down and out dope fiend still showers and fucks more regularly than adult fans of My Little Pony
*found the adult fans of My Little Pony on chapo.chat
One of the things I love about chapo.chat is that people don't push toxic masculinity here
Laughing at weirdos who watch a children's cartoon is not toxic masculinity, please feel free to get indignant about something more worth your energy.
Also why the fuck are you not bothered by any of the other comments making fun of your fandom in this thread?
Oh well if they're weirdos that makes it okay. Social conformity is an inherent good and the aberrant must constantly be reminded of their inferiority to decent, conventional people after all.
Swaths of adults being obsessed with children's media and basing their identities around it is a symptom of late stage neoliberal daycare treaty treat brain and I refuse to normalize it. You would agree with me if I were talking about some lib shit everyone here unanimously dislikes, like Harry Potter, but since I'm talking about your own personal pet fandom it's apparently off limits.
I thought we roasted Harry Potter because of libs bringing it into politics all the time (DAE Drumf is Voldemort??), not because it's targeted towards kids.
Yes, because grown adults using children's entertainment as their primary point of reference for analyzing the world is abnormal and unhealthy, and not in a cool way. I get you're trying to be a cool guy who doesn't judge or whatever but sometimes judging people is actually good.
Damn, sorry for liking something that someone shitty also liked, I'll be sure to check all media I consume from here on to make sure that only good people like it.
Like I said earlier, I haven't watched MLP in years. I like plenty of age-appropriate things, but there's nothing wrong with liking things that aren't specifically targeted to your demographic. To me, that's the bigger sign of late-stage neoliberal crap - that everything you consume has to be specifically tailored to your demographic and your identity. You can't just have your own reasons for enjoying something, you have to consume the product that's made for you in the way that it was intended.
But it was funnier to just answer "No," and like I said this stuff isn't really that big of a deal.
"Stop basing your identity around this media! Anyway, something this person you've never met said nine years ago reflects badly on you because they like this piece of media that you also like."
Man you are truly upset about me making fun of your children's show about magical ponies, huh?
You're not doing much to convince me that bronies aren't weirdly emotionally overinvested in their favorite show.
Attacking the people who watch a show and acting like it's the show itself they're defending when they respond is pretty fucking disingenuous. If you'd said something like "It's the worst show made" or whatever I probably wouldn't have given your comment a second thought.
You claim you're opposing neoliberalism (great praxis, by the way!) when you're defining people by the media they consume, which is about as neoliberal as it gets.
making fun of the pony cartoon and/or people who watch it is ackshually neoliberalism
Oh my god, get a fucking life. Please.
You're the one who's acting like a single media property people enjoy is their entire identity.
Also, as someone who grew up loving Harry Potter, I can safely say that the treatment of adult MLP fans is wayyyyy more vicious than that of adult Harry Potter fans.
as someone who grew up loving Harry Potter
Well, I think I found your problem. Run along and enjoy your creepy world of Jew-goblins and slave-elves.
Well, I think I found your problem.
Yeah, its username is JeanPaulBlartre.
Swaths of adults being obsessed with children’s media and basing their identities around it is a symptom of late stage neoliberal daycare treaty treat brain and I refuse to normalize it
This is a fair argument. I think an adult playing with children's toys, so to speak, is by definition childish.
However, you seem to me like the guy who reads, "Religion is the opium of the masses," and walks away saying, "Destroy all religion!" Childish things, like religion, are a salve to rub on the limbs weary from capitalism, the burdens of life. Attacking them isn't attacking capitalism, it's attacking its victims. And unlike religion, childish things seem mostly harmless to me.
I'm someone who thinks most media is utter shit. "90+% on Rotten Tomatoes? Let me try it..." and then I cringe at how poorly it's written for an hour before turning it off. As I said, I thought MLP was wholesome and decently written, but I it was too boring to keep watching. If someone manages to find something they like, even if it's odd, why the need to ostracize them?
If you were a brony in 2012-13 there’s a solid chance you’ve come out as either fash or trans by now.
If you were a good brony you are now probably a trans communist furry
if you were a bad brony you're just a fascist who is still obsessed with a canceled cartoon for little girls
As if Bronies weren't all libertarians already. They fantasize about fucking child horses, doesn't get more libertarian than that.
For real though can we make fun of libertarian shitheads without also implying that enjoying a kid's cartoon means you want to sexually abuse animals and/or children
