If anything, letting Democrats win the next few major elections could spell doom for the Republican party as a whole, and give us a chance to introduce some actual competition to the Democratic party.

Why is there a time traveler from the year 2000 posting on lemmy.world?

They legitimately think the GOP exists because a group of people brainwashed a bunch of people

Let's start with where you understand, and we will see where we disagree. My position is history is primarily driven by Material Conditions, ie the status of reality itself and what came before it, and not by individuals moving against the current, so to speak.

As an example, if Karl Marx was born in the year 1200, he would not have had the ideas he does, there would be no conception of Dialectical Materialism from him.

Perfect! Essentially, to wrap it around, the Republican party exists because the conditions for it exist. The idea that we can "vote blue until the Reps are no more, then a left party will take its place" is wrong, because they won't remove the conditions for a fascist party. The new party will be fascist as well, or permadem rule for right wing Dems, like California.

OP, please tell me that someone in the comment section pointed out that the liberals fucking won that election and it was them appointing Hitler to the Chancellorship that produced that outcome. I'm not looking at that cesspit comment section, I just want to not be nagged by my compulsion to argue over this sort of thing.

God, this might be my least favorite lie, that Hitler won the election. It's completely obviously not true that a single google result will dispel it in five seconds, but people still confidently assert it like the KPD were spoilers. I need to assume that it's intentional deceit at this point.

Edit: Their symbol for the politics com being an "I voted" sticker that says "VOTE" is just perfect, btw

I had to log off, I was getting genuinely upset. It doesn't get better, they get even worse

                On the other hand... tagline?

                Here it is:

"When could we have voted for a 90% tax rate?"

Eisenhower's presidency did see some tax rates above 90%, but that figure only applied to the individual income taxes of top earners. For married people filing jointly in 1953, for example, any income above $200,000 was taxed at 90%, above $300,000 at 91%, and above $400,000 at 92%.

For someone who claims to know a lot about history, you sure are short on facts.

And if history is a 'physical process' post some pictures of it working. Not pictures of people doing things, because that would prove my point. A discrete physical embodiment of history, please.

SPD? Propped up as the main left party in west germany, still exists, still useless and social fascist.

and yeah calling them social fascists is never expanded on, the fuckers were advocating for colonisation, for war, for fatherland, heaveho

spd ran the police in berlin and are directly responsible for killing Rosa Luxemburg, rip

This type of revisionism is off putting to "normies." I don't know if that will change with widespread normalization, but, for the current time, people are still (correctly) primed to respond with "wait... what the fuck?"

Anecdotal: I was discussing with a friend who isn't tuned in to basically anything explicitly "political" especially online Nazi shit. It came up due to a meme where girls were asking guys how often they thought about Rome. And I was like "yeah, for a few people it's probably for actual historical comparisons, but for most of them that's a red flag. They're just obsessed with the power and the glory aesthetics from the past. Like the Nazis."

Then I was continuing on with something like "many of them ironically agree with the Nazis, although they will always say they do not. A fundamental thing that they agree on, a core aspect of fascism and Nazism, was their hatred for communism and specifically the USSR in the case of Nazis. A lot of them have spent time trying to pretend that the Soviets were as bad as the Nazis. There's no actual basis for this, it's known as Holocaust revisionism which is akin to holocaust denialism, but they will say it nonetheless. Perhaps unaware that they are just saying Nazi talking points."

Her only response was "what the fuck? Why?"

I just let her wonder why/place that puzzle piece as she feels fit... but if you're just saying Nazi talking points and making shit up to make their crimes seem less significant, well, I know what I call those people...

Wasn't the problem that Hindenburg could appoint any chancellor he wanted if he rejected the pick of the legislature? By the time this election happened he had been ruling by emergency decree for like 2 years. And he was a conservative, even an imaginary alliance of centrists with the SPD and KPD would not have been able to force his hand if he didn't want to accept a nomination he didn't like, and he didn't like the socialists or the communists.

    That famous "communist" Hindenburg.......

Also for the sake of argument and ignoring their rancid revisionism; for their bullshit analogy to work the Democrats would have to be the party NOT actively engaging in a genocide

So are they saying we SHOULD vote for Republicans??? These people are neo-nazis and nothing they say should be taken seriously, they are ecstatic the dems are helping commit one of the greatest crimes of the 21st century because they think that signals a sea change for normalizing soft fascism, a comfortable, respectable collage educated, trust fund version of fascism that will keep the treats flowing and the minorities contained without all the crassness of the Trumpers

These people think it's funny to play around with genocide and neo-nazism because their daddy's home value reads 1 million+
