Went both looking for fellow tankies and seeing who I should be blocking on Mastodon by looking at the hashtag #tankies.

It gave me brain damage and I also found a few of these "lemmy is made by tankies, ewww can't use it"-posts that I had never seen before. So sharing these for our mutual enjoyment:

Also just the general vibe of the posts with this tag is just so hostile. We really live rent free in these peoples heads. Interesting how so many of these were ukraine flag or isntreal flag profiles too, also a few anne applebaum replies, because of course.

The vibe is pretty much whatever this drivel is by a true communism understander:

socialism and communism are merely forms of feudalism

I wish I could be this stupid. Not have to read, not have to care, just make up whatever on the spot and be convinced I'm right.

I tried to explain this feeling to a therapist once and they didn't understand. Imagine never having to think about issues of the day. Just gliding through life with a "it is what it is" attitude. Imagine never having to source your claims, and having an endless army of "normal people" lined up behind you to shout down the truth. Imagine a world built for you, that you never question, never doubt, and never feel betrayed by. Imagine only seeing justice and retribution where there is injustice and ruthless genocide. Just imagine how much simpler your life would be if bad guys were bad, and good guys were good, just like you were always told.

"Normal people" are just stuck in The Matrix. Feel good that you 'escaped'. Choose your battles wisely. Don't feel like every injustice needs a reactionary response. At least that's what I do for my sanity.

Just astounds me that people can say stuff like "socialism is a form of feudalism" and think of themselves as clever, intelligent people. I've read like 3 actual theory books total and feel like a worm who failed kindergarten because of it

    • Belly_Beanis [he/him]

It doesn't even take theory. People don't fight wars, especially civil wars, with people who have the same ideology as they do. The Russian Revolution, French Revolution, Chinese Civil War, and Spanish Civil War all had socialists/communists/anarchists on one side with the nobility and monarchs on another side.

Nearly every time commies have gone to war, it's been to kill fascists or monarchs. You don't have to read 60,731 books of theory to figure that out lmao

ah yes, the dastardly tankies of lemmy are coming after trans people! Do not look at how many users on Hexbear are trans! Do not believe your lying eyes!

The tankies on Lemmy have moderation issues that leave trans users vulnerable.

Meanwhile on Hexbear, we used to ban people for even downvoting pro-trans threads.

Many years ago there was a downbear button. It's good that we got rid of it - now if someone says something you don't like you gotta engage, even if it's just to post a :downbear:

Not to be too sectarian but left-wing politics on mastodon is totally dominated by Epic Western Tech Job Anarchists who think China is doing a colonialism on Hong Kong. But it isn't Orientialist to hold this view because all states are invalid and people should be free of them. Why do they focus on this particular example? A mystery.

I like the term Anarcho-NATOist for these people.

All states are wrong but all actually existing anti-colonial struggles are conveniently problematic enough for me to disavow and shame you for supporting.

      Those are the Anarchist-In-Name-Only types.

"Two state solution? How about no state solution. Both sides are bad and neither get my support 😏"

They'd be out here denouncing figures like Durruti and Malatesta as tankies for what they advocated for and what they did, if they were alive today.

That's the smuglord anarchist playbook, you ALWAYS hate on the real revolutionaries doing what it takes to bring socialism in a world where imperialism is brutally powerful, just remember to sprinkle some actual progressive takes now and then so they don't confuse you for a fascist

"actually, when capitalism kills people, it's feudalism that kills people, and feudalism is just a form of communism"

wow super informed person right here

because feudalism, a system where all land is privately owned by the wealthy and the rest of society works to pay rent to landlords is a form of communism. it's nothing like capitalism.

Lmao the last one would be peak comedy if only it wasn't said completely seriously. Also I have decided that I won't read history and theory any more, it turns out you can just make that stuff up as you like depending on the circumstance, that is much easier

You kind of have to on mastodon because they don't do keyword extraction to automatically pull posts into topical feeds like twitter does. Most people who aren't wankers just put them in a big list at the bottom of the post though, so as to seem a bit less early-2010s

Why is every social media platform obsessed with making the process of talking to another human so convoluted and esoteric? If it weren't for Lemmygrad and Hexbear, I'd only ever interact with people IRL, it's less hassle than doing it on 90% of social media.

Mastodon tries to structure itself around consenting to things rather than being auto-opted into interaction with large groups of people you don't know. It largely fails at this task but I think it's an okay design goal.

The unthreaded broadcast microblog format that Mastodon copied from Twitter inevitably leads to the worst possible takes rising to the surface.

I hope Elon destroys Twitter so completely that it somehow destroys Mastodon and Bluesky too.

There's always some kneejerk fool with poor reading comprehension and a complete lack of knowledge of #PoliticalEconomy and #PoliticalScience who thinks that being anti-socialism is automagically "right wing". #Socialism is a right wing philosophy, it, like #Fascism, is a sub-category of #Feudalism. If you don't understand why, then you don't understand what "left" and "right" mean, in political theory, and you have no business being in my mentions.

The only differences between #Socialism, #Fascism, and classical #Feudalism are the name we give to the ruling class and the means by which membership in that class is determined. This is not difficult to figure out. It all, always, goes back to the land. Who owns Nature? The State, the Party, the Volk, the Gentry, the Peerage. Membership by "merit", by "genetic heritage", or by "inheritance". Different names for the same #privileges.

Absolute banger takes from that account horsepoo-theory https://mstdn.plus/@gcvsa/113001895475656803

It is far more important to read non-fiction. A well-learned person is a person who understands the nature of the real world, how it works, and the real history of how we got to where we are.

Human civilization quite literally stands on the precipice of extinction. Choose wisely.

I guess reading theory and history isn't enough to keep someone from being a lib.

There's no way they actually read shit and unironically believe this. Either they're lying about having read any reliable book about history and political analysis of each of those systems (fascism is not even a system really, it's just a tool of capitalism), or they know very well that what they're saying is horseshit but the goal is simply to equate fascism with communism and apparently feudalism as well.

Their reading list has libs like Michael Pollan on it, there was also some liberty and justice nonsense in there. So it's a choice of a worldview for sure.

Interesting how analysis of settlers or colonialism is also completely missing from this reading list
