I regularly think about this but from a science perspective. I thought I want a rich guy to fund my research and provide for my needs but I am realizing from this comment section that I might just have a kink

What happens when you forget/never knew that publicly funded art was once a thing.

it is still a thing lol, majority of the arts are still funded that way. it seems like a very US-online thing to not engage with state funding for artistic projects.

tbh you would never know arts in America are often state funded without being one yourself because it's not enough for artists to live

for sure. basically everyone I know has a """""real""""" job on the side to pay for rent, but they still use the state funds to pay for their projects.

yea from what my friends have told me about their grants, it pays way less than their minimum wage "real job" too...

It is a very US thing. Back in the 80's Reagan started an attack on public arts budgets in the US that never stopped. As a result US public arts funding is a shdaow of what it was a few generations ago.

the person in the screenshot is a finn, judging by the name at least. We do have publicly funded art but they're constantly lowering the budget because right wingers hate art unless it's hitlerite in character

Being a patron of the arts and keeping artists as pets sound like exactly the kind of thing Elon Musk would get up to. They could probably produce something so horrible that it invalidates the entire deeply respected field of oil painting.

iirc among other things DaVinci was a fairly skilled siege engineer, which was roughly equivalent to being, fuck, idk. I don't think there actually are workers as valuable in modern times as siege engineers were in various historical eras.

Sure, he's the main source of the "reneissance man" as idiom for someone of extensive talents, interests and knowledge.

I meant that there would be no fucking chance to be allowed some far fetched fantasies while in work, burgie buys slave and burgie requires every last ounce of labour, if it's cocksucking painting, then it's gonna be cocksucking painting. And btw da Vinci was also treated the same way and he was considered a top artist even during his life (and iirc about his engineering the invention actually realised were multibarreled guns and those were flop because actual gunmaking was nowhere near the required level). Most other artists under patronate were even less fortunate, just for some reason entire dynamic got romanticised later.

Good that this take in OP is at least written from perspective of the patron, which makes it mere mildly disgusting power fantasy. Every actual artist thinking like that really deserve to have grok permanently wired to their brain.

Da Vinci was also a skilled Theater set builder. He was contracted to do festivals and religious holidays. He was also hot as fuck apparently, which had its perks.

I mean, I wouldn't mind being someone's pet but I would greatly prefer knowing I wouldn't be doomed if they got bored of me or decided to shoot at me for fun
