In my experience, yes.
In Vermont, Game Wardens are cops along with Game Warden activities. If they catch you running a stop sign, they can pull you over and ticket you like any other cop.
Kind of, though I'd likely say its law enforcement under the purview of protecting the commons from exploitation similarly in how mandatory tags fund (if those funds are given appropriately) the maintenance of those same commons for the community.
depends on the uniform. if they look like a jackbooted thug, they're probably a jackbooted thug. if they're wearing shorts and a floppy sun hat, and don't carry a handgun, they're probably not gonna do a brutality on you. your results may vary

Fuck park rangers. You know how hard it is to splice an illegal line onto the internet backbone without thumbs? 'cause I know from repeated experience, because these assholes keep tearing down my setup whenever they catch me.
I live near a national park and long story short they have always been huge fucking annoying assholes.
I think about it like this... say we successfully disband the police as a whole. Is this a position I would want someone to have afterwards? And my short answer is yes. I feel the same way about homicide detectives. I don’t want them to be what they are right now. I don’t know exactly what it should look like. So yes they are cops, but someone should do a job similar to that. Same goes for park rangers.
I got pulled over by park police and they did that good cop bad cop thing on me. One guy was like “just let us search your car if you’ve got nothing to hide so we can be on our way” the other was like “I know he has something! What is it!” Very strange. They couldn’t see anything with a flashlight so then they just wrote my ticket and left.
the scope of forestry is a lot broader than law enforcement. It includes law enforcement but that's only a fraction, unlike a police department which is all law enforcement. Calling park rangers cops is kind of like including judges, lawyers, prosecuters, law makers in the police category.
There are lots of people in the park service who haven't had law enforcement training, and thus are not law enforcement, and aren't cops. Some just go around tagging bears with pepper balls to keep them away from campsites, for example.
Lots of them end up taking the pig course, though, since people cops are paid better than bear cops. And then they get to wear the uniform full-time, instead of just at special occasions.
The governor fo Minnesota deployed like a hundred dnr conversation officers in riot gear to kettle a bunch of totally compliant and unresisting people and arrest them. It gives me no pleasure to say that park rangers are cops.

Yes. In terms of CA Park Rangers specifically (and not just anyone who works at a park), they are called "law enforcement" and are required to go through academy training similar to police. I'm sure the day to day differs wildly depending on the park location, but that doesn't change the fact that their job description has historically been "peace officers".
I only know this because I wanted to be one until I read up on the history and current requirements of the role.
Yeah, my wife is a county park ranger here in CA and she had to go through some park ranger academy ran by the county, along with getting POST certified, so it's definitely a peace officer position. I'm a bit biased, since I'm not trying to hate on my own wife, but I really don't see them entirely in the same light as police officers, since the culture with these county park rangers seems to be they want to maintain the conservation/interpretive role of park rangers as opposed to the enforcement side. But then, maybe that's what I tell myself to avoid causing any serious issues.
