I have literally never upvoted or downvoted someone on Reddit or Chapo, and I'm surprised Chapo kept such a loathsome feature of Reddit. Every time I read about someone giving judgment on whether they'll upvote or downvote someone, I imagine some Yelp reviewer savoring any little microcosm of their existence where their input actually carries any weight.
Just respond to stuff or don't, it's fucking pathetic.
This except you need to scroll through the entire text of state and revolution to see the next comment.
I just downvoted your comment.
FAQ
What does this mean?
The amount of karma (points) on your comment and Reddit account has decreased by one.
Why did you do this?
There are several reasons I may deem a comment to be unworthy of positive or neutral karma. These include, but are not limited to:
- Rudeness towards other Redditors,
- Spreading incorrect information,
- Sarcasm not correctly flagged with a
/s
.
Am I banned from the Reddit?
No - not yet. But you should refrain from making comments like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional downvote, which may put your commenting and posting privileges in jeopardy.
I don't believe my comment deserved a downvote. Can you un-downvote it?
Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Reddit PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downvote appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.
How can I prevent this from happening in the future?
Accept the downvote and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Reddit.com. I will continue to issue downvotes until you improve your conduct. Remember: Reddit is privilege, not a right.
I can't live without the tiny dopamine rushes that I get from seeing number go up.
I feel the same way and it's unironically, scientifically bad for people's mental health. Posting in a banned user thread.
We're not Senators in a forum, we're Gladiators in an arena, and we live or die by the lurking crowd 💪
Sounds like a rather pathetic way to live though. I don't even moderate myself in my fundamental opinions while speaking with new co-workers, so why the fuck am I going to worry about downvoters on some free website.
I think it just leads to easily-impressionable people living and breathing somewhat according to Internet points.
We're all slaves to something, whether it's our egos or the opinions of a crowd, the only option is to sink into our Id and become Spartacus
yeah, the cumtown refugees make for a very interesting... leftist forum?
I mean, everyone here has been selected for liking votes, like 3x over.
I'm sorry and this might make me ignorant but I have no idea what this sentence means. What is "selected" in this context?
You’re basically describing a chan, try out /leftypol/.
Was all of the Internet pre-2012 a chan then?
I think the only old bb-style leftist forum is cumtown.org
Eh.
Removing the visibility of likes and repost counts has been a big topic on Mastodon in the past and they've taken steps toward deemphasizing them. It feels wrong because it goes against the grain in today's world of social media and I understand why users would be against it because it feels good to get attention but it's actually ultimately good.
