You ever think about how much of our lives are determined by how we were raised? If the parents are really that insane, those kids could live with some serious issues even if they manage to pursue a good career, have a good social life, etc. At worst, they could be crippled from mental illness and unable to achieve what other people from healthy households can.

It's something that I don't really think you could even solve under socialism.

the issue is at least somewhat addressable under socialism, because a big part of the continuing issue is fracture of community.

kids growing up in households run by these people have no outside resource under capitalism, they rely wholly on the continued benefecence of the household theyre in, rather than the community in general.

in a socialist society, such fracturing of community into individual homes is at the very least lessened

yknow, that old adage about "it takes a village" and all that?

        at least thats the ideal

I know it's silly but I genuinely kind of wish I could live in one of those isolated Polynesian island tribes in like the 1200s, just sailing around with the bros and living on an island with a nice community. Maybe I'm doing a "noble savage" thing here, but learning about the tribes that still exist make me think they have something figured out.

It was/is a good life. Arguably better than ours.

But there's still plenty of war and bad shit, though at a less intense scale. Cultural roles are often not all that, food supply is not as secure as you might think, and if you get too many people on your island you may find yourself on a boat with the rest of the losers pointed at where someone swears, honest, they saw a seagull one time.

I chose isolated island tribe because I hoped contact with others would be minimal. Like, as cool as I think the Salish lifestyle was, they were constantly getting raided by the Haida and shit. I feel like there has to be some tribe throughout history that has pretty much remained insular enough to not interact with any other tribes on a large scale. Kind of like those natives that merced the missionary a few years ago.

yep. she didnt even go to a catholic school, she visited a standard public high school in germany and even took AP biology so she should know what evolution is and how it works. yet when we talked about it she asked me how "elephants could suddenly be there" when they weren't created by god. at first i tought she was fucking with me but the way she acted makes me believe that shes completely serious about it

Give it a little space for a bit and revisit it when you think you each can have a calm curious conversation about it. Probably something that will need to be discussed again eventually lol

My AP Bio teacher was a creationist, they had to have a sub cover all the blasphemy when she was out having a baby for half the semester.

I mean, they literally discovered the Big Bang trying to own the Atheists and their steady-state theory. They aren't even remotely opposed to deep-time.

I listened to the pod save Obama interview from yesterday and I gotta say that the preview of the Biden admin for the next two years seems pretty bleak.

They're already saying we wont have money for anything, and trump is unintereated in stimulus so nobody is going to get stimulus until January and in Biden's first term expect stimulus only for big business. They're not getting 60 seats in the Senate and hearing Obama talk about it Biden will probably accomplish nothing legislatively for 2 years on the hopes that the midterms will be a Dem swing. So the median voter will get nothing and if your progressive or a leftist even you will be expected to be thankful for that and campaign or at least pull the lever for the dems in 2022.

Dont know how Chomsky thinks this will be an admin susceptible to any outside pressure. They have the perfect excuse in place and I guarantee if Chomsky is still alive in 2022 he'll be trotted out to shame leftists into voting dem again.

Also Obama said it was the voters fault that they didnt vote Dem hard enough federally and locally for why he didnt decrease the racial bias in criminal justice - never mind dem strongholds like Cali or NY still being horrendous and that he literally had the power to pardon anybody he wanted to unilaterally.

Pod Save is basically the communications wing of the Democratic Party, so what you heard is the official strategy for 2022.

I think I hate Obama more than any living politician.

Amen. It's borderline delusional that people think this. The future of the Democrats is to abandon the left completely. In terms of donors and voters, they have much more to gain in the short term by consolidating their dying 'progressive' neoliberalism with the dying neoconservative movement that used to form the base of the GOP.

David Frum, the Lincoln Project, and all the Bush era ghouls will be the ones who have the power to reform the Dems, not Bernie or the Squad. At this point, it seems like even the most modest social democracy requires making a clean break with the Dems, and forming a large enough 3rd party left-wing voting block that can credibly tip elections, forcing some sort of compromise.

Had a dream I went to london to get eaten by demons as a sex thing.

I'm on the bus to London right now. We'll see what happens when I get there, I guess.

We drove past a place called Wookey Hole.

Anyone else get annoyed with the constant need to fill in the noise? People act like you're weird if you just wanna think quietly to yourself instead of talking. We're never really still unless it's like. to captivate our mind with entertainment.

Idk maybe just an autistic thing to care about. I feel like i have to put on headphones and listen to something so i can pretend to be occupied while i'm pacing and thinking otherwise people get weirded out. I feel stuck and like can't process some things unless i literally just think them through but i have to pretend i'm not thinking about them, at least in public??? it's weird.

Quiet thinking time is normal and it’s only recently we have been able to fill every second with C O N T E N T and never have time to think. You’re normal.
